9 - Robert Lewandowski

I am afraid you and I are substantially different on many levels of aspects life, we won't find mutual understanding on this.

I am afraid, you belong to the Neo European society model where cultural heritage and the sense of national belonging lost its meaning. I am in opposition to this trend vehemently.
I cultivate being polish, teach my kids, and grand kids our culture and history, require and encourage to speak Polish and read our literature, even though they're born Americans.
Lewandowski makes me proud, so does Iga Swiatek, and few others. I don't undestand why it is so hard for you to understand, certainly an intelligent man, to follow someone who you are a fan of.

Let's say you have a favorite opera singer, like Pavarotti was or Placido Domingo. They changed theaters and venues every week, yet it wasn't weird to follow them and experience their talents everywhere they went.

Look, I am here, perhaps temporarily, due to Lewa, but as long as plays, I am 100% a dedicated fan...get an honest kick out of every game...like it is my NT or former local club where I used to live.
Call it weird, creepy, or whatever...I could not care less. I don't mind your opinion either...I find it fascinating what other people think.
Question for you, though,
Why are you here, since you are not a Barca fan...? What do you get out of this? Football to me is about adrenaline...without it, I'd probably prefer to watch chess.

To each their own, as they say.
Fair enough - I like you as a guy (though having read your political posts we are indeed very different in that arena, but I wouldn't let that get between us chatting and getting on). We are different in that sense. Thanks for the compliment. I guess I have just never understood nationalism and feeling a kinship with someone because of being born in a geographically proximate position. Maybe it's because I know so many utter dickheads that I know being Scottish doesn't make someone worthy of my time. I am sure you know plenty of wanker Poles but you don't let it affect how you see Polish people in general. So like you say, it's different values in general, and I respect that.

FWIW - I am not really talking about you. You aren't a troll. You give good and bad points about Lewa, talk about other subjects etc. I am referring to the ones who only show up to defend him like they are his relative, and put down other Barca players in the process. As @CatalinR10 says, this is a Barca forum. People here want the best for Barca, not Robert Lewandowski, or Raphinha, or Pedri, or whoever. Barca will still exist long after those players are gone. It's about the collective, it's about the club. So when they see trolls who are clearly only here to lick Lewa's arse put down Barca and its other players, that will naturally annoy them. Those people don't care about Barca - they're just here because Lewa is at the club. That's fair enough but then they start slagging the club and his team-mates off. It's like Ronaldo worshippers who followed him at Juventus and blamed every other cunt and the club - anybody but him - for their failures when he was there. They're trolls and acolytes, cult followers.

As for why I am here - Tempt posted a rant about Ronaldo I made elsewhere, so I replied to that. This was coincidentally during the Euros, and since I love international tournaments, I decided to stay for it. Then I decided to stay for the Olympics and it has snowballed since then. Believe me, I wish I didn't post as much because it's taking up way too much of my time and I am not getting enough other hobbies done, so I am gonna make a clean break soon despite liking most people on here.

But, to reiterate, I have no problem with you. You are not a troll and you back up your opinions, and fair enough on you being more patriotic than me. You don't act like Lewa is God and put down his team-mates, and you post about other football subjects too, so you are fine.

Yes

And people take that as an attack on him LOL. Do they not realise they're arguably the three best strikers of all time? Over 160 years of football? Being in the group below doesn't mean he's not an amazing striker. He should be happy with that as his talent doesn't warrant more.

If anything, it does a disservice to those three to feel insulted that people think they're better than him. As if it's somehow a negative to not be as good as Luis Nazario, Muller or Van Basten for fuck sake.

I actually think Ronaldo Nazario was better than RL9. But I also think prime R9 was the best football player ever, better than Messi and CR9.

Van Basten and Muller tho? Nah man.

You're one of the Lewandowski troll worshippers I am referring to, so I expect no different from you.

You're obviously Polish too, so very biased. And I bet you know nothing about Van Basten and Muller.

Also funny to say 'even better than C Ronaldo' and totally ignore Pele and Maradona, who piss on him. As if the two Ronaldos and Messi are the top three. Nice one mate.

Let's be real. Hardly anybody here has actually seen Prime Pele and Maradona play.

There's loads of footage of both of them online, full games, not just highlights.

Also, I seen Maradona as a kid, although obviously not Pele.

Either way, the point is ignorance is no excuse. Just because someone played years ago we don't automatically put players from the modern era above them.

'I have never seen Garrincha play so fuck it. henry must be better'. 'I never watched Pele but I have seen C Ronaldo, so he must be better' - what kind of fucked up lazy logic is this?

Can you guys give me a briefly summary about what youve discussed in last pages, too much to read 😵‍💫
It's mostly about celebrity worship and patriotism, and if they are correct or not. And Lewa trolls who only show up to discuss him and nothing else on the forum, and put down his team-mates to make out nothing is ever his fault. There's 5 or 6 of these on this site.

We have all heard the stories, seen the footage, watched the highlight clips and done a bit of research with due diligence.

That's still nothing compared to actually watching full games in real time and analysing it as an adult.

For instance, if you were a kid watching Maradona, you'll have lesser knowledge and understanding of Football in general than as an adult. So that affects perception. Nostalgia bias comes into play too. Just like recency bias. "This overrated modern clown can never be as good as the magical guy I grew up watching and idolising".

True, it works both ways, I never disputed that, unlike kids now claiming past players were nobodies who played with the dinosaurs.

The point is we don't just lazily assume past players were inferior because there's a lot less footage of them. That's insane.

Pele and Maradona will always be in the GOAT debate.

Pele and Maradona will always be in the GOAT debate.
You say that but they're already being forgotten by the younger generations.

I'd say the same will happen to Messi and Ronaldo when they are 'ancient cunts' to the kids of 50 years from now and several hotshots have been and gone since them. But they both benefit from being almost the earliest footballing superstars in the information and social media age, so they will have a record of what they have done. Even if in 50 years TV or current cameras seem prehistoric. They might not, we might be close to a technology ceiling given human eye capabilities.

The only sure thing about the GOAT debate is that CR7 isn’t in it

Cannot really be in it without some success at the World Cup. Doesn't necessarily need to win it either as some teams are not well equipped for it, even though Portugal's had a couple of very good teams with him.

Not even a shot at him, but his performances in the WC in KO rounds is disgusting.
