Yeah, it wasn't Lewas brilliance what made the difference. It's the eleven players. He gets the glory. Similar to Ronaldo's glory days. IMO.

Similiar, but some of Ronaldos goals were of higher quality imo.
But it obviously help to have a team that creates chances all the time.

Every great player gets a disproportionate amount of credit when their club is on the top. Individual awards should always be taken with a grain of salt since so many of them are due to circumstance and chance. But with all that said Lewy is just as good of a shout as any for this year.

Modric got gifted a Ballon D'or as a lifetime achievement award and Buffon finished 4th in 2017 at almost 40 years of age simply because people felt sorry he lost another CL final. Lewandowski winning these prizes wouldn't be nearly as bad as some of the more shocking decisions we've seen over the years.

No way he is the best individual player in the world, but he is perfect in the Bayern system. They don't need someone to make their own chances with how well the team play together.

That whole "best in the world" thing doesn't make sense anyway. Apart from Messi (and his rivalry with Ronaldo) these awards are usually just for someone having a good season, but it's not like the winner is miles ahead of the competition.

We're in for a lot of changing winners from now on, because it's unlikely someone as dominant as Messi/Ronaldo will suddenly rise up. Not long ago Salah was the center of attention, now Lewandowski, next season it's probably someone else again, Modric won his award as well. If it wasn't for Messi/Ronaldo dominating competitions for 10+ we would've probably seen a different winner every single season in that time period.

Would be nice if Ballon dor never came back, now would be a good opportunity to abolish it, but it will be back again next year unfortunately.

Yeah I agree. These individual awards are unnecessary as fuck.

Wouldn't be surprised if they added more. Idk if it's the influence of US sport, social media or where exactly that focus on individual players comes from but it seems like people love that shit, especially more casual fans.

That's why media plays off that so much as well. MESSI VS LEWANDOWSKI was a big part of how they approached Barca-Bayern over here from what i saw, with the usual great tv experts giving their opinions on who will decide the game for his team. Watched a show where one guy said you can't compare players like that and he was immediately cut off to go back to the "who is better????!" talk

To be fair he was man marked by pique and semedo and even lenglen was keeping an eye of him. This allow so much space for the other players. We were too focused on him

This was the most stupid thing what we could do. We gave him all our focus and leave the other players who were as dangerous or even more than Lewandowski free. Setien masterplan.

worth pointing out Lewandowski was the least noticable offensive player, yet won the 2nd most tackles and the most headers on the pitch. 2 big chances (his own shot vs Ter Stegen, and Comans chance) and 1 goal (the 1-4) came directly from him dispossessing Barcas defenders in their own final third. Kinda underlines the importance of intense pressing these days.
