I don't know why, but I feel a CB or defensive player needs to have this draconian nature, this hierarchy of.. perhaps power isn't the right word, but maybe intimidation as opposed to the other players on the field- where when you look at him, you feel that goal is more sheltered, protected by him. Adriano, sure he has the speed to chase down a through ball, or the positioning sense to withstand an attack, but I don't feel I'm looking at a CB standing in his position when I glanced at our back four. I just don't see it. I don't want people to mistake me. I don't want a senseless brute to play CB, but our back four currently does not give the security a back four should give. It just feels like four intelligent players in front of the goal. We need that element that only a natural CB can provide.

Song doesn't provide that. Adriano doesn't provide that. Masch is great, but with the company he had today it didn't do much to change the feeling of insecurity that our defense has been given me for too long now. We are by far the best team in the world, and these Clasicos wouldn't be so bittersweet if we could just get a fuckin' solid, defensive lineup.

I would like to commend him though for the guts to give a performance in a foreign position against a difficult opponent. But please, this is no reason for hope. Gimme a damn CB.

Adriano surely has a potential to be a replacement's replacement. Actualy he did a great job tonight, we played against best counter attacking team in LL and he was quite reliable. He could probably get the job done against weaker teams. I think the problem is Alves, looks like there's something wrong with the guy and it's not the injury. hopefully I'm wrong

Other than some positioning/offside trap mistakes I think he played pretty well. The positioning will improve with time and experience, as it has with Mascherano. Considering what was asked of him, I say good job.

That's an immensely critical angle to what i find to be Vilanova truly demonstrating his cojones - being succesful with a risky, surprising decision.

Both Adriano and Masch play bigger than they actually are, they are strong and jump well. Adriano might be able to learn how to be a serviceable CB, but that would not come about right away. I think is has more aptitude for CB than Song does.

But guy like Ramos are tall and can jump well, I seen when he came running in and got an easy free header, should have scored, never ever again unless it is an emergency like last night.

i think what matters is that we have many short players and particularly last night we had only Busquets who as we all know isnt good on the air so we were lucky that Ramos didnt score that chance or madrid didnt score from any other set piece
