I was surprised to read that he was Croatian when I saw his name because I knew it to be a Bosnian name. I didn't realize he was born in Zagreb. I wonder how controversial his national choice is/will be.

I liked what I saw from Kovacic at Inter. Very gifted.

I'd be pretty scary to put together a former Yugoslavia team. They'd destroy us all.

Yes he's half-half, he choosed or "choosed" (MAmic again) Croatia.

Nothing controversial about it, really. He was born in Dubrovnik, Croatia and grew up in Zagreb, so other than his ancestry (his father is Bosnian, but also played in Croatian clubs and coaches here, now) there's nothing else linking him to Bosnia. I've read that the Bosnian national team wanted him to play for them, but he chose Croatia. I find it logical. The Croatian NT has had and still has many players with mixed or foreign ancestry, or players with Croatian ancestry who were born and raised in other countries, and even foreign players who acquired citizenship as adults (after playing in Croatian clubs for a while), so in comparison to them, Halilović's case seems pretty normal.

I was about to ask if there are others in the Croatian team who could claim more than one (of Bosnia/Serbia/Croatia). I would think we'd see it more often than it seems.

Drazen Petrovic was the first Croatian I ever saw. What a beauty. RIP.

The deal is that Jedvaj is leaving in the winter, and Halilović in the summer of 2014, though. But apparently they made the deal already.

If it's true, I gotta hand it to AVB. He's gotten guys like Vertonghen, Holtby, and Lloris to come when they were all being pursued by much bigger clubs. When it comes to transfers, he's done very well.
