Stupid logic is stupid. If Xavi, who don't score that often, said the same thing, nobody would say a thing.

Inb4 Xavi is not a forward and better at everything else than Alexis

Well it's true, Xavi contributes more than enough to the team in other ways that not being a prolific goalscorer isn't a problem, and that's not what he's paid to do. For Xavi, scoring a goal is a bonus. Alexis is SUPPOSED to be a goalscorer, if he's not doing what he's supposed to be doing then how can he call himself among the best in the world?

That's what exactly happens when you take wide midfielder from 3-5-2 and make him your right forward. No goals, some assists, good skills, poor shots.

I'm well aware of that and I agree, but the logic that a player can't be considered one of the best because he doesn't score a lot of goals is stupid, and that's mainly what I got from that meme. I know the meme works because it is Alexis, but otherwise it doesn't make sense.

And if people still think we bought Alexis to be a prolific goalscorer they are being delusional. Has he underachieved when it comes goalscoring this season? No doubt. He should have scored around the same amount of goals as he did in his first season here, but if you expect anything more from him goal scoring wise, you'll continue to be disappointed.

You can make fun of the guy all you want, however there must be a reason why big clubs are still interested in signing him despite his form with Barca...

In my opinion, he didn't come out as arrogant, I think he's just trying to get confidence from all the places he can, reassuring himself of what he can do, reminding himself that there's a reason why he's on this team... After all the scrutiny he's been subject of, it's just understandable that he wants to make a stand, whether he fails or not is a whole different story...

But then again, what else was expected here? The hounds were ready to jump on him, those same hounds who have conveniently ignored all the previous press conferences where he sung the humility tune...

Supporting-Alexis-no-matter-what has become almost like this hipster trend of some kind. It's just so much cooler and more superior than being among those who rightly and honestly address his terrible playing. And terrible attitude now, it seems. "I have always been among the best players in the world." This guy makes CR7 look like an arrogance amateur.

What have trends have to do with anything? Why do you assume those who support him are not right nor honest? He "slips" in an interview and now he has terrible attitude? There's nothing cool or hip about supporting or pissing on a player, that's very immature way of seeing things, I don't expect everyone to agree with me but in the same way I'm not going to sympathize with childish criticism... I'm not arguing against your opinion per se, you have valid points, it's the portrayal of such opinions that's annoying...

One thing is questioning what he said, that's fair enough, but to say that's terrible attitude is a long shot... Especially when Pedro, Alves, Piqué, Alba, Busquets, Cesc and others have "embarrassed" the club with sketchy attitudes ON THE PITCH!

Say he's not good enough, say he was out of line with that comment, but don't make it sound like he killed someone...

(Sorry, if this post sounds harsh, it is not my intention, I'm cool with everyone here)

I don't know, something about someone coming out and saying "I'm one of the best players in the world" whether they are or not, rubs me the wrong way. Even if it was Messi.

I know, but keep in mind that all he hears from the press is how much he is underperforming... All the guy has heard for the last six months is: "You suck!"... And while he did make a bold statement, I guess he's just pissed off at people saying that stuff about him, even if they may be right...

If there's one thing this guy has shown throughout his whole career is humility and you all know it, this one incident should not take that away, especially when you consider the situation he is in...

EDIT:

People are focusing on a very small detail, where he said he was a great player (jugadorazo)... Listen to the whole interview and the question he was asked before that...

The question was: "Are the critics from Barcelona too harsh?", to which he answered: "Meh, I give all I've got, I'm very happy... I know what kind of player I am, I am a great player"...

And all of it is within the context of Humberto Suazo quitting the Chile NT, to which Alexis said: "He's a unique player, but yeah, I understand him... Sometimes your critics hurt the players without knowing, sometimes I don't really want to play from all the (bad) things that you say, but this is Chile and this is the best for me and I come to give my best for the NT"...

So, I really think he was pissed off for all the criticism, I'm not justifying his actions, but you can't judge him over a headline, listen to the whole interview in context and you might see it's not so bad as people are making it out to be...

No prob. :beer2:

It wasn't directed specifically towards you or anybody in particular (I don't really memorize usernames so I wouldn't know who I was referring to even if I wanted to  ), I'm just saying that lately there's been this perceptible trend in supporting Alexis (for the lack of a better term, I did say "almost like a trend" in the original post), and a lot of these people act as if they are superior for supporting a guy who's not playing well, as opposed to those who just state the obvious and criticize him for not doing his job well.

Don't get caught up in minor semantic differences. Terrible attitude, being out of line, or whatever else I could have said... the important thing is to get the message across. And believe even my choice of words was enough to achieve that. I don't think anyone would take Alexis for a murderer because I said he had "terrible attitude".

As far as the Pedro, Alves, etc. embarrassment on the pitch goes, if you're talking about their theatrics and diving, I'm wondering how Alexis doesn't fall into that same category. He is by far the worst of the lot.

Apologies to anyone who might find themselves insulted by my post in some way, I just have a very low tolerance level for vanity. And I really don't see how anyone can defend his statements in this case. I honestly don't. And we have the video to see for ourselves that it was not fake, not taken out of context (although I don't see how that would have made a difference with such bold statements  ), and not a sarcastic reply to annoying questions, it was a straight-up honest answer, and that's the worst part. It's not a slip. Bojan was right, not only does he have the nerve to talk like that in public, he is also delusional.

Why bother? Because the logic itself is stupid.

I totally agree with what you're saying in the general sense, you're right, but the picture and the caption was solely in regard to Alexis. So I don't see why we would purposely take it out of context to prove how the logic doesn't apply to other players.

Sure, but like others have said he should just do his talking on the pitch. Much like Cesc who complained about the way the fans treat him, needs to earn praise himself. And I was a fan of both players before they came to Barca so I'm not saying it out of "hate".
