I don't know,I have defended Lucho so much and I still think he is a truly underrated coach here. That said I had the same thought tonight.
But I am not sure what is wrong,Lucho has done nothing but putting faith in him, I mean he might be bad fit (I argued that b4 signing him) or may be not good enough (plenty argued that too b4 signing him) but he isn't that bad and something is awfully wrong there? In such situation you can blame the coach but on the other hand I don't know what Lucho could have done more to him. He was far worse than any other midfielders we have this year.
The only thing that he showed tonight is more toughness and more importantly heart. What could Lucho have done to make him play like that more?

Well, it's purely a missmatch between his style as a player and our style as a team. For example, he doesn't have the license to go up with the ball, because there are more important players who need to be played as much as possible, so he won't actually be on the ball that often here. Instead, he has a lot of off the ball duties, that in Valencia were picked up by other players.

But again such thing (mismatch of style) can be said about many other player who weren't as bad as him. And it doesn't explain why a 1.9M guy get outmuscled and miss easy chances and make some bad passes in weird time or get bad 1st touches. All who he weren't as bad b4
I don't want to over analyze things but I feel it could be sort of Hleb situation were something else in his life is distracting him.

He makes bad touches because at Barcelona he gets less time to react. So, you can see that everytime he receives under tighter marking he gets tense and rigid, resulting in bad plays and touches. When the marking is not as tight, his first touch is fine, because he is more relaxed.

We have too many midfielders (Gomes, Rakitic, Mascherano) who panic when they are pressed. When you panic, your touches are heavier, thus less fluid and more forced.

A big issue is the fact that these players are not used to inform themselves at all times about the space around them and the opponent's positions. When the ball is not in their area they just relax in the game, they're in a passive state. To a true playmaker, this doesn't happen, these players do not relax (or sleep) when they aren't engaged, but, instead look around constantly, finding spaces to move into, right after they receive under tight marking. In top football, the seconds you spend analyzing the space around you are the difference between panic and lucidity, once you are passed to by a teammated. Knowing were the danger comes from in advance, and knowing what do to to evade it is what made Xavi one of the greatest playmakers of all time.

People actually scapegoating him when his introduction helped us get back into the game. Unfortunately for him Mascherano gets bullied by Chiellini & Suarez bottles his mandatory big chance in a big game.

Iniesta was by far our worst player on the night yet everyone's active in this one.

Iniesta wasn't even top 3 worst players. Mathieu, Mascherano, and Neymar were all much worse.

I thought Gomes was actually decent for a change. He gave us stability and didnt fuvk anything up bar the moment where Khedira got a yellow.

See? thats the problem. analyses football only with ball at the feet. Iniesta was by far the worst player. Not covering any ground, leaving Dybala open, he NEEDS the ball at his feet, he leaves us with 10 men without the ball, and is completely useless if he does'nt have the ball in his feet

Wtf are you even talking about? He is the one that covered the most ground up with Raka, Roberto and Neymar.

The guy is bad but he wasn't the worst yesterday. I actually liked what he did for the first 20 minutes but then he lost too many balls and missed too many passes.

His confidence level right now has gone to -9 , people need to give him a break!
He has been bad all season. . . but actually did a decent job last night.

I agree he has been disastrous entire season, but with this level of criticism no one can perform. People and journalists need to give him a little break now.
I honestly feel sorry for him.
