Bad game tbh, good for his standarts, first time I see him use his body strength, but still nowhere even close barca standarts, he lost the ball twice where if asspanyol wasn't so shit we would have conceded and barca fans would have lynched him. Once Roberto came into his position he was so much better..

I have to agree with this. Even D.Suarez with that many opportunities would give some good performances.
By his standards Gomes was good today, but that 2nd half... just simply not good.

He is far more comfortable against Osasuna type of teams that leave acres of space in the middle. Against mid-table La Liga teams he doesn't have the skill, speed or quality.

Don't wanna say Bob didn't show potential, because he did, but can't compare it. When Gomes left the pitch the game literally was over, they were 2-0 down and tired after a hard fight. In first half he was better than Rakitic who had a really bad game today, showed some improvement and one could see that he is a better player after having gained confidence.
Still wouldn't sell him. We need a bigger squad in terms of quality and although some won't agree, Gomes added something when he got subbed in in the last games. He will do better with a new coach other than Unzué next season.

Don't forget that today's game was very difficult and most of our players struggled.

We have played most of the season,only 4 games left (3 Leaue + CDR final) this season.
We know what Gomes lack and give for the team, his performance now could raise or slow down short term perception of him. But the whole sale vs No sale will be based on whole season. But the time for that will come very soon in less than a month
But right now, it is what it is. 3-4-3 is almost dead with Rafinha injury tbh,can't be used against any tough opponents. In 4-3-3 Roberto remain our best bet as RB. In midfield we have Busquets-Rakitic-Iniesta as our best trio,we know that. atm Gomes seem their best sub as much I hate to say, but Arda is shit and Denis is more fitted to advanced roles, he isn't really midfielder unless against an attacking opponent like Seville
That isn't an ideal situation by any mean, but it is the current one. We need to face the reality here and enjoy the rest of the few games we have,hopefully we will end the season with winning streak and with a trophy or two. but at the mean time there is no point of crying on Gomes starting a game like today. He was the best option we had,between admittedly many bad alternatives

It's funny how semi-decent moments seem to stand out so much for Gomes. Unfortunately, I don't think that it's anything that Umtiti or Pique couldn't do if they were in midfield 
. I bet even MATS could turn and play an open throughball to Neymar if he was in that position. I think it's a pretty damning situation for it to be a 50/50 gamble as to whether a professional player for FC Barcelona can execute a moderate-range pass without fucking up, or for him to be totally unwilling to even look for those passes because he never wants to play through the pressure and instead away from it to safety.
People to this day debate whether or not Rakitic is starting quality for Barcelona despite the ability to hold his own and shine in the biggest games like the 2-3 Clasico, CL final, and the Semifinal against Bayern. Of course, Rakitic isn't perfect just because of those performances and some criticism against him is completely warranted. It just puts into perspective that a player like THAT might not be considered good enough for Barca, let alone Gomes. I simply can't imagine ever starting Gomes in a high stakes high pressure game like a Clasico or a CL knockout round, he would get eaten alive when facing a world class midfield/defense. Alternatively, I still can't even imagine us ever subbing on Gomes late to change a game and either bring more defensive security or more attacking creativity/threat (yah yah 5 meter pass to Alba against RM, whatever). He provides neither of those things and reduces both whenever he's on.
I think it's a waste of time, money, and an important portion of rotation minutes to keep him in the squad even for another year.

Still, one with sharp tactical eyes could easily see that Roberto is at least twice as good as a midfielder as Gomes tries to be.
When Roberto came forward the unnecessary back-passes were reduced in number, suddenly the team became faster and the midfield started playing as midfield.
With Gomes on it is simply impossible, his qualities are just not enough for the team.
