André Gomes

Respect your opinion, but sorry, disagree. His first touch is nowhere near good enough and, literally, I don't think I've even see him step away from a player, let alone actually go past anyone. Would he be better in a different system? He couldn't be worse.

No. The number of games where midfield is the protagonist and not MSN (Like it was during the coaching tenure of Cruyff, Van Gaal, Pep, Tito).

I understand what you're saying, but even if the current system isn't to Gomes' liking, we should still expect moments of quality, glimpses of genuine talent. And personally I haven't seen anything of the sort.

Have to disagree with you about clean shooting. What I have seen (and I have watched 95% of Barça games + 5-6 Portugal games) he is a BAD SHOOTER. Lots of them are perfect for american football but sadly our cross bar is few meters lower.

And to note, I don't have anything agsinst the guy, he just did not made it here and maybe it is best for him to go elsewhere and gain confidence. Here he is not wanted anymore by most of the supporters.

I have seen the qualities I mentioned in a Champions league game against Borussia Monchengladbach. One might argue it was against mediocre team. But again, quality is what it is within. That's why we can never see Rakitic totally control midfield even against granada nor can we see Suarez playing quick one touch accurate passes against poor teams.

These records does not define his capacity but it does suggests his potential. These records happened in consecutive matches, one of the very rare occasions when Lucho gave importance to possession.

I supported him a lot of times, because I don't belive in judging players after 4 months. But he's had a season already, doesn't look like he will improve, so I would totally sell him. He has some qualities sure, and can pull off unexpected dribbles and interesting tricks with the ball, but he doesn't fit our style. I don't see any resemblance between his style and Cruyff's totaal voetbal philosophy. On the contrary, he seems to be much better when he is allowed to dwell on the ball and travel with it for larger distances. Not so great when he is asked to play with one touch in a limited space.

Does someone care to look for that graphic where 95% of his passes were backward? I remember it clearly but I don't want toxsesrch on mobile + watching Hajduk:Everton

Strange. I haven't seen any "unexpected dribbles" or "interesting tricks" by Gomes in a full year, perhaps you thought of Iniesta who is capable of those things, but Gomes??

BTW, judging a player in longer than four months? An expert eye needs 15 minutes or a single game to judge, an intense training session or similar things, but waiting for long months the player will diametrically change his abilities is closer to the religious belief, which has little to nothing to do with the practical and quite pragmatic aspect of this game.
When I saw Gomes in two games and mentioned his easily visible hopelessness for this team, many good folks wished to cut my throat here. But they simply need to digest that judging talent and possible merge of playing style in a given team is NOT an art in itself, it's pragmatic and relatively easy for those who know the game well.

I just read that Juventus wants gomes on loan, barca should accept him and let samper stay, but I'm sure the won't because they're pathetic.

I'm all for getting rid of him, but FUCK Juventus and their shitty loan deals. They are a rich club, pay up or piss off.

Just having Gomes gone, even if for only a season, would drastically improve the team while also leaving room for Samper/Alena.

Pls don't piss off, Juve. :(
