André Gomes

I see jamdav is back in here. But no word for a week after his recent bad performances.

As I said. Gomes gets dragged by the team when everyone is playing well but does nothing in tough games.

Nothing gets by you eh?

Gomes played poorly vs Sociedad and said so at time.

Think you need to watch a bit closer though as he didn't play v Espanyol.

Bit torn on him.

He was decent yesterday, but not amazing by any means. But can't really deny that he has been much better this year than he was last season. Not anywhere near good enough to start for us if we consider our other available options.

But if he continues this trajectory of improvement next season and in the future, who knows, he might actually become a solid player for us.

this i really can't understand, how come you're willing to keep him and giving him chances for years to come in hope to eventually he becomes solid player for us??from what he is showing and how much he plays,we would benefit much much more if we give all those chances to alena, homegrown player who is four years younger and actually shows signs of potential to become good player in the future, and i don't even have to say that investing in alena would be much cheaper than investing and keeping gomes...

I'm also torn on Gomes ...

I've been one of biggest supporters in here but it may well be time for him to move on and see if he can revitalise what WAS a very promising career ...

He HAS looked better of late and I'm convinced that's mainly due to him getting a bit of confidence back PLUS the Couthinho effect which has worked on all the midfielders :)

It's clear that the fans are never gonna take to him so ....

Exactly, people are willing to give him the luxury of time to show that miniscule amount of improvement, but when it comes to Alena, people starts bashing on his first few performances and compares him to Xavi or Iniesta. I think Gomes has shown enough, he's simply not cut for the Barca system, he would actually suit a system better like Portugal's. He only racked up 3 goals 1 assist, his passes are mostly side passes and backpasses, nothing too special frm him. There's no point continue investing in him.

To be fair , his passes last night all went forward apart from a few real nice crossfield balls .

A grand total of 1 key pass and 1 chance created in 11 league appearances. That's simply not good enough for someone who tries to be so involved going forward. In comparison Denis has 7 and 9 respectively with fewer minutes. Oh, and Denis wins more aerial duels pr. 90 than Gomes.

Double standards. Denis Suarez is in poor form and people are like "SELL", while Gomes getting the same ratings is labelled as "GOOD GAME", "USEFUL", "IMPROVING" and "MUCH BETTER THAN LAST SEASON". They are about the same age, one cost FC Barcelona 3.5 million €, the other 35 million € (+ 20 million € add-ons). There was another "USEFUL" player in the squad that cost 34 million € + bonuses, made much more impact than Gomes and was loaned back forever to Turkey.

He only made two long balls where there's hardly anyone in the middle. Playing extremely safe, passes were rather accurate but lets not forget he got dispossessed more than any other player, and his duel won rate is extremely poor despite his physique. Some of his basic side passes got cut out as well.

Again, if u wanna praise him for 2 long balls, go ahead, but if that's seriously the best he could do in 1.5 years, then he's simply not cut for Barca. In almost every match, good or bad, everyone outperforms him. His average season ratings of last year amd tjis year are roughly similar, 6.0 to 6.8, not good enough.

Nor does anyone get as much shit for a solid display.
It's not the solid displays. It's the absence of any indication that he can produce something more. Also, if he can put in "solid" performances when the really tough games roll in, then I would be less inclined to criticize his presence. I somehow doubt that though, and if he can't then I think that 35 mil is a bit steep for a player whose only purpose is to allow rest for others in easy games when we got homegrowns prospects knocking on the door.

He put in a solid display away to Atletico and Celta already. Actually he was good in both those.
