André Gomes

Yeah, this is what the other poster is talking about... Getting sympathy.

He has a professional obligation to the club and as such can't just open up about things like this while he is still under their employ. You seek empathy for him I seek tact from him.

Naive to assume he has done this behind club's back. Club probably acknowledges the mental issue and allowed Andre to discuss it in public outings in the hope it might help him.

Just to clarify - I'm not stating as my opinion that he did this for sympathy. I was just debating if that could be the reason for this, considering how odd the comments and the timing of them are. It could perfectly well be orchestrated by the club who felt this might be good for him. Either way, it will be interesting to see how the Camp reacts to it.

And you're behaving as if he has a mental illness. He is just feeling the strain of playing for Barcelona and is carrying his screw ups with him.

If the club allowed this to happen then I'd be very, very surprised. He is on the chopping block... This doesn't help the club at all.

I'd be surprised if the club didn't allow this to happen. This isn't a post-match interview where players will spout things coming off of a heated game.
This is an interview scheduled with a magazine. Meaning there is a PR-agent present or his answers have been screened before hand.

Who would want to buy him now? Nobody wants a player bereft of confidence who divulges these types of things to the media while he is still at said club.

I really can't believe I just read that! Stupidity doesn't even begin to describe what he just did.

Samper was crying in the lockerroom because of a pressure when Barca B faced the relagetion and refused to play, lol.
Bartra refused to play against Bayern under Tito, because he was scared to play.

Yet, majority of our fans wanted both Bartra and Samper in our shirt for years after that.
If these two got so much credit even though they were shit to mediocre in skills, I am quite sure that Gomes (who is actually an NT player and who can actually be a starter in some decent team) will find a buyer.

Also, fans didn't whine about Samper and Bartra: how will we sell them now?
On contrary, people thought that those two are the next Xavi and our Bartresi, in spite of the crying episodes.

Ah, good old double standards, never gets old

** Also, I don't hate Gomes, but after that I don't see him succeeding in any way here.
Pressure and mental strength is equally as important skill in a club like Barca, like technical skills passing or dribbling.
I am not mad at him, like posters above, regarding his future price.

No we haven't. Just because we don't score 150 goals this season doesn't mean we have been mediocre. We are far better than last year

Last season was shit so why even bother comparing lmao. This forum is so shortsighted that the moaning and crying will begin soon again.

Seems that he is mentally fragile. Maybe he will be able to get out the confidence dip and start performing one day when things get better for him and he toughens up. But not at Barca. Time to sell him in the summer.

Why is everyone acting like he has a mental illness or something? If he wants to talk about stuff like this with the press he could've at least waited until the end of the season or after he moved on to another club. Coming out and making such comments during the most crucial part of the season is doing no one any favours. Valverde and the players are going to be endlessly bombarded with questions about him right before an important CL match and other clubs may be wary of buying him as a result.

The truth is that he's probably just another player with thin skin who doesn't have much mental fortitude or toughness and falters under pressure. To be able to succeed here you need to have at least some level of mental strength and an ability overcome adversity, pressure and criticism.

Whatever problem he has I hope he recovers from it, but Barca's not the place for him to do it. We don't have time to deal with the baggage of a player of his quality.

Samper was a kid and I don't recall Bartra refusing to play... I think he played both games, 90 mins each, due to Puyol and Mascherano being out. Further neither of them spoke about it publicly as far as remember...

And you're full of crap... Do you know that Xavi nearly left for Milan because he had trouble breaking into the team and struggled with the dynamics. The fans and critics called him a "windscreen wiper". But yet again he didn't cry in the media. Xavi once said that he only got recognised after 2008 Euros... He had been a Barça first team player for 10 years by then already...

Mental atitude/strenght is the one thing that s the most hard to judge in prospects. I don t blame the man, i can imagine how tough it can be playing for a club like Barca.
I don t know if the club has some sort of psychological training, but i m sure that this area is the one, that has the most room for progress. Mind, like a body, can be trained. Pressurre anxiety
is self imposed, so it can be remedied. It just takes will power and change in self percepcion.

I feel sympathy for the guy. He's really been torn apart by fans for a good while now, myself included. You could say he's paid millions to handle pressure, there's no reason to feel sorry for him etc. but all things aside it must really suck to get booed when you're already down on the dumps. He could really use a confidence boost, like a last minute goal ala sergi roberto would do him wonders. He really has not been up to standards, but I wish him nothing but well and I hope he finds joy again playing.

Some people here are unbelievable. This interview is a clear cry for help, he doesn't have mental issues he is just depressed, frustrated and traumatized. Some people know how to handle pressure and stress and others don’t, every person is different.

Do I like him as a player? Well no I don’t but you have to be a realy insensitive moron to come after him because of this interview. I feel sorry for this guy and I sincerely hope he'll end up in some other club this summer. It’s the only solution for him and for Barca. He showed in Valencia that he is better than this but unfortunately he was never a good fit and that’s more our mistake than his.

I am really interested how would some of you guys feel if you were getting booed at your workplace every time you say something? It’s really easy to be a BRAVEHEART on the internet and under your pseudonym.

Why has he been playing? That’s more concerning. If he is prepared to tell the press this, it’s safe to assume he has mentioned something to management.

And it sounds like he probably shouldn’t be playing if he is “not enjoying” his football. He needs to sort those off field issues first. Hopefully the club can get some decent money for him in the summer, and he can thrive is a less pressured environment. He has some decent attributes, but he isn’t cut out for an elite club.

I do feel bad for him. He should be sold and start out fresh somewhere else.

There is no time for long term experiments at a club like Barca, while he tries to regain his confidence.

On top of that he's already played 70+ games for us.

A move in the summer would be best for him.
