I feel sorry for Vermaelen, if anyone.

Millionaire unworthy of Barca shirt gets booed by parts of the crowd? That doesn't sound like a real problem lads.

He is not blaming the crowd booing though it comes across as the pressure he puts on himself more than anything.

Anyone from any walk of life can feel like shit for a variety of reasons.

Most problem people have are not "real". But it is real to them. People who look like they have everything are even killing themselves, not to mention drugs or other vices.
It s not about the money or circumstances it is about psyche.
This presure is self imposed, like most psychological issues. It s about wanting to be admired/respected, or about fear of dissapointing. Same thing really. Easy to understand but very hard to repair.
If i were him i would go play somewhere where i could find joy in the game, because without that...what s the point of playing?

Barcelona did not need this! Just when the team is playing well this "AGENT" is trying to destroy another season.

Don't be fooled by this pre-planned video he made.

Sad to read this stuff about one of our players. Of course our club isn't a charity-organization and if you don't have the mentality to cope with pressure, it isn't the club for you, but it is clear that Gomes can be a lot better than he is right now. I hope for him that he finds a new club, with less limelight and utilize it once again.

I'm probably one of the most vocally critical people of him here, but I feel bad about his situation and fans should have some empathy.

He is terrible but it's not like it's something he can affect/change, something fans should know as we were never near good enough to become professionals no matter how hard we could've tried. And yes, everyday people do feel a lot of pressure/stress about things, it's not exclusive to Gomes. *However*, we have the luxury of not having all our shortcomings/failures be put under the spotlight for the whole world to see and have everyone go on at length about how shit we are at this or that. That's a huge difference and knowing that can eat away at your psyche. It's easy to talk when you've NEVER been under the public eye like that, I imagine it feels inescapable for them.

It's not even his fault he's playing that much, EV and Lucho should take serious flack for insisting on playing him time and time again when he's clearly not comfortable or good enough.

Having money is one thing, but your internal feeling of self worth is something else entirely which is what Gomes is struggling with right now. It takes much more mental strength/fortitude to play for Barca but you can't really shit on Gomes for not having it because 99% of people don't, including you and I, and we should be understanding of that. It's up to the club and the coach to sign/play players that are up to the task and not in way over their heads and that is where Barca and Lucho/EV have failed thoroughly with Gomes.

All this proves to me is that we've been right all along, Gomes doesn't have what it takes to play for us. If I was getting booed at my work after consistently under performing despite doing my best, I'd go find a new job, which is exactly what Gomes needs to do.

At this point I think Gomes needs to sit in the stands until the end of the season. Not only is he bad, but he's now made it publicly known that he doesn't have the mental fortitude to perform. At least with Paulinho you can try to argue that he's just fatigued. As far as I'm concerned, Gomes shouldn't be counted on as part of the team any longer, and should be sold to a mid table or lower team in the summer, so he can play football without any pressure.

I think it's time to give his minutes to Alena. Gomes has basically come out and confirmed he's never going to improve because he can't cope with the pressure, so it's time to see if we can develop someone who can.

Not gonna say it isn't harsh what you say but your'e right. Sadly if he had what it takes in him to succeed in Barca he would choose to fight the pressure and not give in to it. I do think he can be better for mid/low table clubs in La Liga the likes of Sociadad Bilbao and such. I wish him luck in wherever he chooses to play but clearly Barca isn't that place.

Not sure if he feels this little confession session will get him sympathy from the fans. These are the kind of quotes you hear from footballers after they have moved on from a club or retired, not while they are still freaking playing for the club - especially considering this clown might start the biggest match of the season yet.

He's not in a fit mental state to start this match. He won't pass the medical for it.

Well timed PR stunt by Gomes and Jorge Mendes to shut up the Camp Nou crowd. Anyway in football, sport, art, etc. you win the public with performance, not apologies. If it's hard for him he should retire from football. Instead now FC Barcelona and the crowd look like assholes.

i don't like to see the fans booing our own player(s), leave that to clubs like Madrid. Its best for all parties if Gomes leaves in the summer, maybe a return to Valencia or a smaller club to regain his confidence. I don't really understand why he feels hes under so much pressure though, we paid 40mil, its hardly record breaking.

It is painful because he and the players around him all realise he doesn't have that natural ability you need to play at Barca's level.

He mentions awareness and it is interesting his lack of feel during a game - his lack of awareness. He doesn't seem to instinctively know where most the players are a lot of the time when he receives the ball. This stuff you can't really teach.

I remember him at Valencia - never thought he was good enough for us when I watched him there.

Seeing as he is in mental anguish and is suffering - it is best he finds a new club in the summer and gives himself a new set of goals. Most teams to not play with the frenetic pace and guile Barcelona do - so most likely he will succeed and do very well.

I am really interested how would some of you guys feel if you were getting booed at your workplace every time you say something?

Honestly - if I was being paid as much as Gomes - no one would be able to wipe a big smile off my face - whatever they said to me at work. :andre:

You're welcome
Certain news outlet posted that he is receiving a lot of support from Spain for his comments. Could be Madridista's faking it and wanting him to stay at Barca.
Also club has expressed their support of these statements. Josep Vives said the club is fully at Gomes' disposal and have full understanding for his comments.

Who knows? Maybe Barca's image will benefit from this event and eventually contribute in having a future quality player pick Barca over Madrid lol.
I, at least, think it's admirable how it is handled and how he has the support of his fellow players to this point still. And I am surely not the only one.

I guess PR-stunt is working *snif*

Unfortunately this isn't the problem, it is his brain, sadly human brain has its way in self destruction with many people.
I don't know if this is a serious issue/cry of help or he is just a cry baby. but this things should never be taken lightly and hopefully the club is forcing him to psychotherapy.

Don't think he is a crybaby. I think a lot of people here misinterpret him talking about this as an example of mental weakness or lack of toughness. I think Gomes allowing himself to say these things is the result of how supporting the club and its players are. Likely many players in his position would say the same if they felt they didn't compromise the club or their relationship or respect with the rest of the team.

Now whether we are too soft as a business is another discussion.
