Last season, Ev often played Rakitic-Paulinho-Gomes in 442, or at least two of them.

There is no way that Ev will suddenly lose Paulinho, sell Gomes and not play Rakitic and play a totally different profile of players.

It's obvious that no one does.
His best qualities and strong points are not easily discernible.
He's been here for 2 years and i'm still not sure what he adds.
Maybe if he made up for his lack of technical ability with a high defensive workrate or aggression then you could make a case for him.
Edgar Davids wasn't the most technical player but he had fight. Gomes has nothing like that.
He Doesn't even use his 6'2 frame, maybe as an aerial threat or anything.
