Valverde was not forcing him into the line up. He did not play all that much really.

Nor was he really taking minutes from talents. Whem Dembele got fit he was playing far, far more minutes than Gomes was.

Gomes played a decent amount, and when he wasn't playing he often came on from the bench. Either scenario isn't beneficial to the club.

Liga:16 games with 628 minutes (less than 40 minutes per game in those 16 games) with only 6 league starts. Liga is 38 games
CDR: 5 games with 315 minutes (63 minutes per game) with 4 starts, we played 9 games in last year CDR
CL: 9 games with 170 minutes (less than 19 minutes per game) with 1 start. We played 10 games

I don't see those as decent amount at all,if he stayed next season with injury and added players he will play even way less

It probably seems like a lot more after what Valverde pulled in the CL against Roma, and most of the rest of his minutes were either trash minutes we could have given to anyone, or starts in games where Alena/any B teamer should have really been playing instead.

What did he achieve in those 1000 minutes this season? 1 Yellow Card? 1 Assist in Copa?
Yerry Mina had more assists than him in La Liga.

Also consider how he started the games vs Atletico, Bilbao (not sure), and some other high profile games

And that was after his little media interview where he confessed he was miserable here and didn't feel confident playing football.
