Bojan asked this question to me in a separate thread as to how good/bad Txiki was/is...It's failed transfers like the Arshavin one that raise the question for me as to how much/little Txiki had to do with the failure to sign him.

I am, however, inclined to believe that this fell more on Zenit than anyone else since Arshavin's transfer saga was not limited to Barca...Tottenham also romanced the Russian but could not get the deal done...The fact that Arsenal (Who notoriously do not splash cash) is ironic, in the end...Makes you wonder what Arsenal did right or if Zenit merely had caved eventually

arshavin's manager said tonight that Arshavin was never ever close to any deal with Barca , just rumours .

As regard to this recent story , Arshavin was asked if he would like to play for Barca , someday - he said - 'of course' - that isn't a newstory in my book .

Arshavin or Pato would be perfect, maybe even Robinho. Ribery is overrated and he'll cost a fortune. And as much as I like Krasic, I don't think he'll fit in our system

Hi:

Do not forget this news:

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=777861&sec=england&cc=5901

If that materializes, he is a walk on without transfer fees. He is very good:

Villa and Arshavin would give us the flexibility we do not have this year. You can rotate Arshavin with Iniesta and Xavi. In addition, we can rotate Arshavin with Ibra, Pedro, and Villa. Arshavin can also play for Messi.

Best regards,

Hektor

Arshavin from midfield would certainly aleviate my "no long shooters from outside the box" concerns. However, we're already going to spend a small fortune on Cesc. To get Cesc and Arshavin we'd have to finance Arsenal's stadium payments for 10 years. I'm not down w/ that.

^no-one put a gun to his head and forced him to move to Arsenal....

the owner of Zenit did when he rejected our offer for a full summer and then told him that he could stay w/ Zenit for a full year or go to Arsenal. Hell ... even I would choose Arsenal.

The fact that he made it public that he wanted to leave means he can't really stay and face his teamates everyday. What would they be thinking? Something like, "Whats this prick starting ahead of me for? He doesn't even want to play for us!".

He had to move. Spurs & Barca got rejected in the summer. Arsenal came in for him in the winter.

If his public outburst was going put a strain with his teamates at zenit he should've kept quiet in the first place. He signed his contract with them, just like he signed a contract with Arsenal. Barca didn't want to shell out for him that summer so he tried to whore himself to spurs. Its like a cycle, sign a contract...whine to try and force a move and repeat.

Zenit was ARshavins first club. Arsenal is his second.

How can you say that its a cycle when he's only moved once in his entire career?

Arsahvin moved because he had amibtion to play in a bigger league with a bigger club. He found out Arsenal never win anything and Wenger is shit and he now wants to move to his dream club. Nothing wrong with having ambition if you ask me..

Because he's trying to force a move in the same way he forced a move previously.

'A bigger league'.....prove that la liga is a more popular league the the PL. If I recall correctly there was thread on this recently and the conclusion was made that both leagues are pretty equal in strength.

Its good having ambition, but he should've just angled for a move to Barca the following summer instead of going to Arsenal. There's ways of going about it instead of acting like a mercenary.

He's not forcing anymove. He is declaring admration for Barca. He hasnt said he is unhappy at Arsenal...

When i said bigger league i meant from Russian to England.

There is other ways but how did he know Barca would come in for him again? I remember him saying.."Who would i replace in the barca lineup? Messi -best player in the world, Henry - hes too good...". He probably thought "What if no club comes in for me again?"

"Even playing just one season for Barcelonawould make a pinnacle of my whole career"

Saying something like that isn't going to annoy the Arsenal management and fans? If Iniesta or Xavi came out and said something like that about Real (highly unlikely I know) wouldn't you get pissed?

And you just contradicted yourself as you said 'he wants to move to his dream club' now you're saying 'he's not forcing any move'.....

Messi was already established when they went in for him. Henry's been shunted to the bench for this season, so he would've had a chance to start ahead of Henry.
