How can Iniesta be considered one of the most creative, when all season long he only gave 10 assists, i.e. created 10 goals. In contrast Fabregas has already given 9 assists this season with servicing inferior strikers.
Lampard is superior to Iniesta. The stats back it up. Scoring goals and making assists is what makes the difference, not fancy touches and flicks with no end product. It's not only Lampard's 20+ goals per season, but also Lampard's creativity, his assists. As I mentioned before Lampard had 18 assists for Chelsea last season, compared to Iniesta's 10 assists, so clearly Lampard is more creative, unlike what most say.
Just imagine how good the likes of Lampard and Fabregas will be at Barca, given the fact they are currently creating more goals for inferior fowards. Surely Lampard and Fabregas will get much more than 10 assists, if they had Eto'o, Henry and Messi ahead of them.
People only say Iniesta is good because of aesthetics which is just personal taste. People defending Iniesta are running away from the hard, solid unbiased stats, and making excuses. The stats (5 goals and 10 assists) show that Iniesta contribution is minimal, a mere system player. Whereas true difference players like Fabregas and Lampard and Xavi can be every bit as skillful, but their football brain allows them to make those assist passes and also get into good positions to score goals.
You're reading way too much into these stats you're bringing up.
When Barcelona played Chelsea in the Semi-finals earlier this year, they were at a considerable disadvantage because they were missing two central defenders as well as Henry, and they were much more fatigued as they were still in contention for their domestic league and had a series of important matches around the same time (Valencia, Sevilla, Madrid). Notwithstanding same, a Chelsea side including Frank Lampard along with Ballack and Essien (both outstanding) didn't even bother trying to control the midfield because their highly respected coach had decided it was a lost cause. That's right.. Guus Hiddink, then coach of Chelsea, didn't believe Lampard could lead an incredibly talented midfield to control the game when pitted against Barcelona's mentally and physically exhausted three man midfield, and Iniesta is a HUGE reason for this, obviously along with Xavi.
A midfielder doesn't always need to score goals and obviously if you're playing for FC Barcelona behind the likes of Henry/Messi/Eto'o/Ibrahimovic this applies even moreso. Fabregas and Lampard scoring more than Iniesta doesn't matter at all because they play on different teams and have different roles for those teams and one happens to be goalscoring. I'm sure if Arsenal signed Villa and Torres you wouldn't see Cesc taking quite as many shots.
Iniesta is a great player because he has a good touch and dribbles well, he's pacey, and he reads the game better than anyone playing today. He helps force the other team to turn over the ball in midfield, he's as good as anyone at keeping possession, and is simply amazing at spotting a weakness and exploiting it either with a world class pass or a fantastic run as necessary, and he is very consistent about making the intelligent call. There's just no way Lampard is better than he is.
Here, take it from a some people who know a thing or two about the game:
"I'm not obsessed with Messi, Iniesta is the danger," Ferguson says. "He's fantastic. He makes the team work. The way he finds passes, his movement and ability to create space is incredible. He's so important for Barcelona."
"Barcelona are a brilliant team and in my opinion Andres Iniesta is the best player in the world, he's incredible," said Rooney.
"Andrés doesn't dye his hair, doesn't wear earrings and hasn't got any tattoos. That makes him unattractive to the media, but he's the best," Guardiola said recently
"Iniesta is easily Spain's most complete player. He has everything," Xavi says
