Ángel Di María

Veronica Brunati's article a couple of days ago mentions Mariano Aguilar is one of Di Maria's main representatives that has been trying to negotiate with PSG to let him go but Nassar remains clear that he's not for sale and will not especially sell to us.

I think Mendes still has some sway with Di Maria still but probably not as much as MD and Sport keep thinking.

What the heck is Barca management team thinking of bringing di Maria (age 29) and disposing Andre Gomes (age 24) ?

Paulinho (age 29) is another example of degenerating as opposed to regenerating.

By next year, these players will coming close to their prime end:
  • 1. Pique age 31
  • 2. Mascherano age 34
  • 3. Mascherano age 34
  • 4. Iniesta age 34
  • 5. Busqueets age 30
  • 6. Rakitic age 30
  • 7. Vidal age 29
  • 8. Arda age 31
  • 9. Messi age 31
  • 10. Suarez age 31
  • 11. Jordi Alba age 29

Mascherano is worth 2 players? Not bad.

1- We can easily replace him and I think he is still can give us three more years.
2- He is a back up. Not too worried.
3-
4- Hopefully we sign Coutinho this window.
5- I think he is still has so much to offer. He rarely gets injured. Maybe five more years?
6- Tough
7- Not a starter + Palanica should be good enough to replace him.
8- Oh well.
9- Still can give us a little bit more. Three years maybe?
10- Tough. Icardi, Dybala, Dolberg, Belotti are all good options, but still not easy to replace.
11- Very optimistic that Cucurella is going to be a very good replacement.

So we are really looking at three positions. Two CMs and a ST.

Dembele 21 ST Messi 31
Coutinho 26 Busquets 30 CM
Cucurella 19 Umtiti 24 Pique 31 Semedo 24
Stegen 26

I'd like to feel the same way but after signing Paulinho everything is possible.

Everything except any world class midfielder which is highly needed  Almost everyone is hoping he will not be signed. Waste of money again that could be used on someone more usefull.

I agree with you completely with the age thing but in this case Di Maria is 10x the player Gomes is.. even if he is inconsistent.

Remember that Real Madrid's backbone is formed by players above the age of 30. Matter of fact they are at least one year older than our 1987-88 generation - Modric and CR7 (1985), Sergio Ramos, Keylor Navas (1986), Benzema (1987). Those "grandpas" are still on top of their game.
