Antoine Griezmann

Best midfielder around
I wouldn't rule out Valverde starting Greizmann, Suarez, Rakitic, Busquets and Bob together.

Rule out? That will be part of our line-up in every big game next season. That’s just the hard reality we will have to face with a moron like Valverde around.

Good player, good signing.

Question - Dont Barca need defensive re-reinforcements more than offensive?

In the league this gone season scored 9 fewer goals than last time around but shipped an extra 7 (36 total). That for me is the area that needs most addressing, the back line.

I have a feeling he will probably be used as a Left Forward.

Better at that role than someone like Coutinho and this current version of Suarez. His work rate and flexibility to some extent could make it work. But the issue is that a Front three of Griez-Suarez-Messi would be to narrow that the opposition would just need to press our Fullbacks and there goes the majority of the width.

Griezmann is without a doubt a world class player. No sane person can deny that. An elite player in fact and in my top 5 of best offensive players out there currently.

This is a just a highlight video, but what I notice is his ability to pick the right finish. He almost never gives the keeper a chance to touch the ball. It appears he has great ability to read how the keeper will defend a shot.

How does anyone not see through this myopic signing is beyond me. This is another one of those "established big name signing" by Barto to appease the fans, it's almost like how Coutinho was signed to replace Iniesta. If you look at Griezmann individually, yes it certainly looks flashy and great. But all these ostentatious signings rarely gets them anywhere.

For one, Griezmann flourishes under the role of a free-roaming main man, from free kicks to penalties (which is a majority of his goals), which obviously wouldn't work here with Messi. He doesnt hold up play, neither does he provide width. Him being left footed accentuates the issue, because we already have one who's scoring loads of goals, we need more who can cut in and shoot with the right.

It's clear we need Dembele on the right wing with the lack of width on the right, which means he is stuck with the left forward role.

All in all, he lacks the sheer shooting technique and power as a number 9, his goals are more his ability to roam alot, him in Barca he will be more limited, which begs the question: why sacrifice your best ability as a main man for a club who doesnt even need such a player. If versatility and mobility is all you need to be convinced, then I'm pretty sure there are plenty others who offers that.

La Liga isn't the issue here especially when we have Messi, we need to build a proper team and strong and distinct roles for the CL, not weak hybrids with lopsided team balance. I would rather get a backup for Suarez for the time being and focus on selling Coutinho if he doesnt work out, strengthen our midfield with Busi and Rakitic phased out. And Pique as well. Forget about constantly worrying about trophies, get the team rebuilt and boot the manager, rather than turning our team into a galaticos retirement home who all will be difficult to sell and recoup in the future. I can already see this team going south.

Idiotic signing imo.

Maybe his signing is short sighted, but wasting ~40-50ME on an average as hell Suarez backup would have been shit as well. After last season it was pretty apparent that we needed another forward and he was by far the best option. Him being left footed is a concern, but I think forwards like him (mobile and hardworking+excellent technique) work best with Messi. I have a much better feeling with him than playing Messi with playmaking wingers like Coutinho or ball carriers like Dembele.

I'm sorry, spending 120M for someone whom you think is going to improve our chances in CL in the present and future while already peaked is even more wasteful. If the backup is 40-50M and average as hell obviously I wouldn't spend that money. Since Malcom or Coutinho is still in the team then I would use them while resting Suarez. He cant be playing every match. Otherwise get rid of them and get better left wingers. Part of the reason why there's so little choices on the market because the club is not attracting young talents esp with Valverde at the helm. On the contrary, Griezmann doesnt work best in a possession based team and stripping the main man role from him restricts him even more. He compensates his shortcomings with alot of work rate but in Barca you need to be alot more to have a telepathic connection with Messi. Anyway, the club is bound to fall, it's only a matter of time, they are just destroying the club inside out, with huge debts before they leave.
