Folk barely have any idea of how good Pavon is or what he can do though.
If Pavon can show he is the better player then fair enough but Di Maria should start for now.
Pavon can prove himself from bench.
Pavon leads the assist chart in Argentina league. That should picture something. Di Maria is a great player, at 2014 WC. But seriously I have no clue his condition atm. Like discussing about masch. It's different between now and 4 years ago.
From all reviews, lo Celso is indispensable atm. Banega, him, pavon, Messi, Lanzini should be good midfield, with masch, biglia, di Maria, meza as backup.

Imagine this Argentina after Messi.s generation retiring)) they will barely qualify for tournaments. Think this is their chance to win it, otherwise another 15 years of waiting for a great generation.
I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with you. Argentina is loaded with young talent. Some of them have not even been called to form part of the final 23 for Russia-2018. You have Meza, Cristian Pavon, Lautaro Martinez, Centurion, Lanzini, Lo Celso, Dybala, Icardi, Otamendi, Ansaldi, Tagliafico, Fujimori, Angel Correa, Joaquin Correa, Lamela, Kranevitter, Mamana, Acuña, Salvio, Pablo Perez, and many others. Messi will be present in Qatar-2022 - I'm sure of that. He will be 35, then. However, he will only be an exceptional earthlink but no longer an extra-terrestial. Dybala will be the most important player in 2022. What Argentina needs is to find a replacement for Mascherano. Who knows? We might even have a new and very young next generational "10" like Pedernera, Di Stefano, Sivori, Ricardo Bochini, Maradona, and Messi. Argentina seems to be producing them, generation after generation. The only thing I pray for is that for the next generational "10" will be a Barça player.

I really like the starting 11 against Haiti with three changes. However, it is impossible to draw many conclusions because Haiti is only the 108th ranked team in the world. But...but, I would make three changes. The first one would be Sergio Agüero for Pipita Higuain. The only reason Agüero did not start was because he is coming off a minor knee surgery. That is a given. The second change is Cristian Pavón for Angel Di María. That is also in the cards. The third one is Dybala for Lanzini. It is not that lanzini had a bad game, on the contrary. However, Messi and Dybala are Argentina's best players, at the present. I do not know if Sampaoli will go for it. He has Dybala just in case Messi gets hurt. Most, if not all, TV commentators and sports reporters are calling for Dybala and Messi to play together. You cannot collapse the defenses around Messi, because Dybala will be left alone and he is very capable of destroying the opposing team. It its impossible to guard against both, without leaving Agüero, Pavon, or others wide open.
I iked Lo Celso playing a bit forward of Mascherano or a more attaching defensive midfielder. Great position and a brilliant move. I would have never thought of that. That is why Sampa is the Mister and I'm not.

I think I like having the idea of dybala at right side and Messi in the middle.
We would see many drift to center move.
With Messi and dybala going from right to left, the left side of opponent's team would be open, that's when other players like salvio could make run and make some lovely cross.
Though that would make our right back side a little bit open and prone from counters. One of biglia or masch should be ready for counter coming from right and quickly stop any run. Salvio would need to make quick backward run once a cross is done.

Argentina has not practiced so many days together in years. Still, they have almost two more weeks before their first game in the WC against Iceland. I would like to see the partnership of Messi and Dybala against Israel before I make my prediction who wins Russia-2018.
Messi stated that he found a new partner with Cristian Pavon. This means that Pavon is starting. Aguero is starting over Higuain, no question about it. Messi and Aguero have been playing together since U-20 WC in Canada-2005. Therefore, the only question remaining, imho, is Dybala starting instead of Lanzini? We'll see.

It is official. The friendly between Argentina and Israel has been cancelled. Argentina is looking for a NT to replace Israel. This game would be played in the Camp Neu.
