Argentina

If true that means Argentina is left without its sole two creative outlets in central midfield  that is some fucking luck. Even more burden on Messi now.

Ever Banega did not figure in the starting 11. More so, there was something wrong with him. We have young players that can replace him. Centurion would be one, butt he underwent emergency appendectomy. :( Therefore he is out. We have Kranevitter, Enzo Perez (he is not young, though,) Pablo Perez, Angel Correa, Joaquin Correa. Lanzini and Banega are not big losses. Many of these players were left out because we could only take 23

If Aguero doesn't start they're fucked. Even Sampaoli can't be that dense to start Higuain.

I agree. We need Mauro Icardi. I hate to lose another final because Higuain missed three sitters. If no Icardi, for whatever reason, bring Lautaro Martinez, for heavens sake!

Best midfielder around
No ideal preparation with the Israel mess and teammates going down and missing the WC one after another. This was by far the last thing they needed. Fear this is will heavily affect their performance. I start crying just thinking about Leo lifting that WC trophy and gaining the official GOAT title. No more tiresome Leo vs. CR7 debate or burden for him to perform for Argentina. Just a free soul.

Banega confirmed to be out?

No. He is not 100%, but still in the 23.

This is not that bad. Teams, when facing adversity and have a common goal, they get that much closer and more determined to overcome the adversities they face. These injuries could be a blessing in disguise for Argentina. Dybala should replace Lanzini in the starting 11, though. Messi and Dybala are the best Argentine players, right now.

Hi:

The Latest.

Sampaoli will wait until after the last training session in Barcelona, tomorrow, to decide who will replace Lanzini. He will form two squads to play against each other to determine the players that are 100%. From that practice, he will see if he needs "5" or not. If it is a "5," I believe that it will be Enzo Perez from River in Argentina. He has played many of the elimination matches especially against Ecuador where he was a very important contributor.

I have "my team:"

..........................................Caballero/Armani.............................................
Mercado...............Otamendi...................Fazio/Rojo...................Tagliafico.......
Dybala/Lo Celso.............................Mascherano....................Dybala/Lo Celso..
................................Messi.....................................Pavón............................
..................................................Agüero.....................................................

PS: I have no idea why it is leaving spaces in names ie: Caballero shows like Caballer o. I tried to edit it, but it is fine.

I do not understand your response. What does the AFA have to do with Lanzini's injury? The team is practicing hard - they really want the WC.

Lanzini is going to be down ~9 months. West Ham must really be pissed. I would bring Matias Kranevitter or Mauro Icardi to replace Lanzini. Aguero is not 100% yet and I do not want Higuain as the "9."

According to a press report:

"Argentina World Cup squad: Manuel Lanzini out of the tournament after cruciate ligament injury in training. The news is a devastating blow to Jorge Sampaoli's side with the tournament kicking off in Moscow in less than a week"

I'm not even talking about the injury, are you on something?

The AFA is something else.

We are talking about Lanzini injury and you come out with the above post. My question was a sensible one: "What has AFA to do with Lanzini's injury. Now you say that you were not talking about Lanzini. OK. Why did you bring out AFA out of the blue without giving any reason why. I'm not a mind reader. All I'm asking is why? Your response was that I must be "on something." Again, I have no idea what you are talking about. I do not insult people; my Mommy taught me better manners.

I think what he meant was the previous topic, Hector, the Israel match. Cool down ok lol.

No Banega, there's Mascherano. If Banega really out, bring Guido Pizarro on. He's excellent for that position.
And Lanzini should be replaced by Dybala. It should be him, anyway. For the replacement, I opt for Paredes of Zenith.

Opting for a ban on Hector if Argentina disappoints.

Argentina is not even in the top 5 to win the WC. Many are predicting that Argentina will not even make it out of the group stage, because Argentina is all about Messi. I love it! Let Germany, Brazil, Spain, or France be the favorites. They have to win it otherwise it is a big disappointment. Several NT are going home extremely disappointed, because only one can one win it. Argentina is only Messi and nothing else, we are lucky to get out of the group. Again, I love it. :p

I know what I'm seeing. We are going through a generational change. Many of the subs are the 2022 team with a lot of the young talent that did not make the 23 final cut.

Another thing. Many reporters and TV experts state that Argentina had horrible qualification rounds and Peru was fantastic and a young team! The cinderella team. We finished third after a very bad games, for Argentina. Peru finished 5th. Sometimes I think why bother with qualifications matches. Brazil (1,) Uruguay (2,) and Argentina (3.) What else is new in South America? If we played better, we might have finished 2nd and Uruguay 3rd.

The AFA was a disaster after the death of Julio Grondona, the long time head of AFA and the corruption that was uncovered. Grondona was the "consinglieri" for the Don himself, Joseph Blatter. Many people in Argentina, including the then President, wanted Grondona out. However, they never took the step to oust him for fear of retaliation by FIFA. All this instability affected the team. It is the main reason that Tata Martino quit and that Paton Bauza (a disaster as a coach) was the only one that took the job. After all this mess, we came in 3rd. We survived considering what the team faced. Now we are coming together. For the first time in 4 years we almost have a month to practice in one place.

The Europeans do not understand what members of the Argentine NT have to go through to take part of the team. Most of the players play in Europe. Therefore, they not only have to go from the Northern Hemisphere to the Southern Hemisphere, where the seasons of the year are the opposite to Europe. For example, Summer in Europe is Winter in Argentina. A twelve-fourteen hours flight. In addition, they have a time change of 6 hours. They trained for 3-4 days and then play two games and they go back to Europe going through the same process, but in reverse.

Argentina National Teams training complex is in Ezeiza, outside Buenos Aires. Ezeiza is where the main International Airport is located. When the players arrive, they have priority in customs and they are taken directly to the Ezeiza complex - a 5 minutes ride. AFA is talking of having a training complex in Europe to eliminate these problems. Europeans have an hour flight to go to their training complex!

Lanzini probably would've been huge for them. I like him as a player. Can dribble, combine with Messi, play throughballs, cross well, etc. Really smart player with a lot of energy and good support play for Messi. Probably the only other guy from Messi who I would trust to give the ball in the final third and expect them to create something on their own, Di Maria be damned.

Leo is cursed, to have a blow like this going into the WC already seen as an underdog. We'll see how Argentina do. It's really up to fate and Messi now, too late for preparation and improvement in the supporting cast to make a difference.
