Argentina simply dont have the material to win the wc. Overall teams like germany, brazil, spain and Even Portugal are better. Bad keeper, average defense, average midtfield, a brilliant attack and an average coach - sorry, but it wont give you the title. I want them to win, but Its ridicules to hold them as one of the favourites, more like an outsider.

Argentina is easily better than Portugal. One team team topped the toughest qualification continent (where else do you see games at ridiculous altitudes and and referees that seem to will one team or the other to win in any given game) The other finished behind Russia and couldn't even beat Israel to secure direct qualification. Germany under Low have been even worse defensively than Argentina in the last two years as well. For what ever reason people seem all to willing to point out or exaggerate Argentina's flaws while glossing over teams the see as better.

So they have an excuse if and when Messi fails, duh.

Nothing wrong with Argentina's team at all. Not the best in the tournament, but not far off at all, they also have probably the easiest route to the latter stages aswell, no excuses, sorry.

Argentina are not really that good. They are 4th favorites for the title, but H2H I would expect Portugal and maybe even Italy to beat them. Qualifying matches (or friendlies) don't really say much IMO, the likes of Portugal always struggle to qualify but play a lot better during the tournament itself, same with Italy and friendlies.

Being held in SA might be an advantage but considering that they choked the Copa America at home, I wouldn't really look into that at this point.

They have by far the easiest route to the semis though, but I think Switzerland could give them a scare in the R16. Hopefully, France end up second in their group so Argentina will have to face them.

Argentina fans have purchased 2nd most tickets to this tournment. Trust me this is huge we saw it for Brazil beating Spain at Confed Cup how the fans can make the difference. If this tournment wasn't in south america I'd rank them 3rd best. They are #1 in my books due to their attacking 4.

 Even with an underperforming coach it was a penalty shoot out loss to the eventual winners in 2011 a game in which Cristian Rodriguez escaped a clear red card in the first few minutes.

The team is solid barring the goalkeeper and left back which Sabella needs to address. Higuain should be fine. His injury just appears to be heavy bruising and a sprain. Palacio needs a rest as well. All of our games will be in the south of Brazil which means the climate will be perfect for the players unlike the humidity and heat further north and will also allow huge numbers of fans to come and support the side given the locals will be fiercely anti Argentine aside from dear Flavia. ;)

Hopefully the hooligan element do not cause any trouble. There have been problems when Argentine sides have visited Brazil in the Libertadores with even the players being attacked by the local police and the locals creating a racket outside the team hotels.

Sabella if he needs to should look to Benfica for some reinforcement if required. Enzo Perez and Nico Gaitan have been excellent. Or some of the kids in Argentina to replace Gago like Lucas Romero.

Plenty of rough gems in the Primera this season headlined by Angel Correa.

Sabella choosing Romero over Caballero kills me every game. With knock off matches going down to penalty shots a good goalie could come handy?!?

Two things worry me about Argentina now that defence has gotten better. Messi not playing his best and and Goalie mistakes.

Leo is a different animal with Argentina. His motivation will come back in spades. The Achilles heel is that buffoon in goal. How Sabella cannot see he is a liability beggars belief. Messi should have a word with his coach and tell him I want Caballero. di Maria would back him up.

... and not playing Messi

To be fair I think he wanted to bring Messi on but the kung fu kick from that Klose sabotaged it. However bringing off Roman was critical going more defensive which is never a good option. It invited pressure and they were going to attack anyway Messi for Crespo for the counter would have been my choice.

Pekerman repeated the same error he had committed in friendlies which the side went on to lose. He also did not play Saviola from the start who was in top form and also failed to rest players against Holland with the team already qualified.

Check out this kickass kid, Geronimo Rulli of Estudiantes. 21 years old. Hope he doesn't set back.

Very decent prospect indeed although still prone to a mistake but he is a kid. I would take him over Romero in a heartbeat and given Sabella's love of Estudiantes I am surprised he has not brought him yet. :p

Manchester City are looking to acquire him along with interest from Barcelona and then loan him out. I don't like this. Damian Martinez has wasted 2 seasons kicking his heels playing mainly reserve football this way.

Geronimo !!!!!!!!

Sorry but what exactly are they playing down? Have you seen their goalkeeper and their defence? Have you seen Aguero's recent form? Gago is out injured and he is their midfield engine. Their defence will struggle against a decent attack.

It has nothing to do with Messi, football is 11v11 and if they fail it will be a team failure. Brazil, Spain, Germany all have better squads. I still think Argentina have a chance though if they can keep everyone fit.

Also take a look at the world cup poll, most of Barcaforum voted for Argentina.

It's true but in the final third no team can match the quality of Argentina.

Since their defenders aren't great they could still attack with 4 and support with 6 for assurance.

About 50% of the defenders were trying to break his legs. So many challenges in this video could lead to serious injuries. That's crazy. :D

Spain can. More than two players get involved in the final third, otherwise yeah Messi & Di Maria probably trump any pair of forwards.
