I prefer "Le Professeur", to the Mr. Bean character he's becoming

Guys, what do you think Arsenal's starting 11 should be? I feel if organized right, this team can still be world-class. Something like this maybe?

----------------------------------Szczesny--------------------------------
---Sagna/Jenkinson------Mert/Koscielny-------Vermaelen/Koscielny---Gibbs--
---------------Diaby/Arteta----------------Coquelin/Arteta-----------------
-----Ox/Cazorla------------Wilshere/Arteta/Cazorla--------Walcott/Podolski--
-----------------------------Giroud/Podolski/Walcott------------------------

It doesn't matter how world class the team is on paper, Wenger clearly does not work on his defensive shape in training & the team is tactically clueless

exactly!!! and he sits on the bench with a grunted face and doesn't make any systematic/tactical changes even when its obvious thats his team is getting ripped apart!

He's never been tactically brilliant. It's just more obvious now we have a poor first team and squad. Just puzzled what the manager is trying to achieve with the makeup of the team as it is.

I cannot help wonder why Arsenal could not play with the desire they showed in the second half against Chelski

I think it's down to expectation and the players can't handle it. At 0-0 it's all to play for and you have something to lose, 0-2 down at half time you have nothing to lose. Teams reflect their managers and Arsene doesn't exactly radiate confidence from the bench these days.

It's almost sacrilege but I'm rapidly losing faith in Arsene. 3 points a must later.

Whatever happened with the defensive structure at the beginning of the season? I've rarely seen Arsenal that solid like they did during the first four or five matches... Did Wenger get pissed at Bould or what? :shakeshead:

From what I've heard Bould is allowed little to no input by Wenger when it comes to training and the likes. Having Wilshere-Arteta-Cazorla as your midfield trio doesn't really help when it's time to defend either. They've looked more solid when Diaby/Coquelin have played next to Wilshere/Arteta

Wenger is too much of an idealist. There are only 2 ways you can play proper passing football, and still win titles.

#1: Have steel in the midfield. Be it an Essien, a Gilberto, a Flamini... Someone who does the dirty work and frees up the flair players

#2: Be like Barca and attack, defend, press, track back as a team and consistently.

#2 is never gonna happen except in odd games where we win 4 or 5 nil, only to drop points in the next two games. #1 is the reason we ever won silverware in the first place, and coincidentally, the closest we ever came to winning the premier league (07 when we were 11 points clear and fucked it up in feb) was when we had Flamini-Cesc-Hleb as our midfield 3.

It's a damn shame M'Vila is off to Russia for peanuts, and all the value French players are going to relegation-threatened Newcastle of all places. We couldn't even try for Toulalan when Malaga were in trouble. I'm starting to get really worried. Spurs had a once in a lifetime collapse because of Harry and him wanting to coach England. That isn't going to happen now. They're in much better shape, with a much better manager, and with momentum on their side.

Option two: be like Barça. Easier said than done. I'd go for #1 :D

That's what infuriates me. All we need is a world class defensive midfielder. We haven't won a thing since Vieira left, and only came close when we had Flamini (who left on a free). The last time we were in a champions league final, we had Gilberto too. But all the times we were humiliated? Nothing but soft players getting torn apart.

I hope they play like this against Bayern...Now that I think about it, that is another unmissable tie. Unfortunately, it's at the same time as the Barca games.
