Arsenal fans are genuinely pleased with shocking football and fourth place. They are content with the likes of Giroud.

I wouldn't say they're content per say. Rather that the majority continue to live in denial, and accept mediocrity from Wenger because of the Invincibles.

Do you even follow Piers Morgan on twitter :messi:

One of my mates who has been a staunch Wenger defender for ages, said after this he should go, he just doesn't think there is anyone out there that can take them to the next level who is available.

@Semi

Don't torture yourself, it's over, I don't even see Arsenal winning, there is no tactical cohesion which is specific to all the PL teams, except Chelsea.

They're simply too afraid of sacking Wenger. He's been there for nearly 20 years and has done a lot of good things for them, at least for about the first half of those 20 years. It's a step they need to take but I can imagine it being hard.

The only way he goes is by resigning himself. And I can't say when that time is going to come. In my opinion, he should've done it after they won the FA Cup last year while breaking their curse of not having won a trophy for 9 years.

Of course the team itself is extremely unbalanced. It's impossible to have Özil, Ramsey and Wilshere all playing in their favorite position without having a proper DM. How many years has it been since they had one? I think Gilberto Silva was the last one.

I wouldn't say they're content per say. Rather that the majority continue to live in denial, and accept mediocrity from Wenger because of the Invincibles.

Also this. Always found the Invincibles a bit overrated. In the end they only won the League and nothing else, so they weren't really that invincible. They were happy with draws at the end of the season so that they could remain unbeaten. For me, Mourinho's Chelsea a year later is the much better team.

I just don't logically understand how anyone can blame Wenger for games like this. We have a system that's been working, everyone's been playing well, we've had good results, and then suddenly the players collectively either are mediocre or choke completely. Like how is that the manager's fault? What in the world could he say/do to make them play that badly?

And as for you guys saying I'm deluded, this feels a lot like everyone saying Barca couldn't win against City after the Malaga game... except Arsenal's performance today was much worse

Everyone? where? And that's not a very good comparison. I'm sorry, but Barça and Arsenal are miles apart from each other.

Look. I commend you for sticking with your team. That's great. It's what all fans should do. There's no "delusion" about that. Of course there's a possibility that Arsenal go through. It's football. Anything can happen in football. It's just that now, Arsenal's chances look to be quite grim. Again, good on you for sticking with your team.

It's a CL game, the parallel is not exactly true @semi

Arsenal was outplayed in the tactical department, mentality has nothing to do with it, people are underestimating Monaco, their defensive block is hard to break

they won the FA Cup 9 months ago , they are set for the next 10 years when it comes to trophies.

It is kinda sad. They were so happy that they didn´t have to play against Bayern or Barca again after the last 4 years. Then they concede 3 Goals against freaking Monaco.
I think Monaco scored like 4 goals in the Group stages.

I misspoke when I said everyone, I'll admit. Actually though, everyone's confidence supports my point, now that I've thought about it.

The point I'm making has nothing to do with Barca and Arsenal's respective skill levels. The point is the difference in performances. Barca go from being impotent against Malaga, making defensive mistakes and doing terribly going forward (48 crosses!) to strolling through City, cutting through them like paper, and being rock solid defensively as well. The performances against Malaga and against City were night and day. And most people (this is where the everyone comes in ) knew that. They were like "yes we played terribly against Malaga, but it happens, it doesn't mean anything, we won't play like this". Yet when Arsenal has their equivalent of Malaga (and again, today was much worse than that) everyone is instantly like, "oh I've always said Arsenal were terrible, no idea why Wenger is still manager, etc. etc. etc."

Like this thread always explodes whenever we lose, it's pretty funny actually. And then we win against City and go on a good streak, the only posts are "nice arse" jokes. I probably sound really bitter right now, but you can't just jump in after our worst game in a long while and go "oh yeah Arsenal suck".

Arsenal was outplayed in the tactical department

Don't be ridiculous man, this game was purely thanks to our midfield disappearing for no reason, Monaco's "tactics" consisted of defending and then playing kick and run

Also don't worry guys I'm not mad at you, no need to apologize for calling me deluded etc
