Arthur

The main limitatin i see from Arthur is that he can't give through balls like Xavi or even rakitic, dembele, busquets, coutinho. he almost always prefers controlling it

Just last night he gave that beautiful through ball to Messi, when Leo later shot from the wide left and the keeper saved it and sent it to a corner, it was in the first half, can't remember which minute exactly. But it was that pass alone that showed Arthur capability in producing some beautiful through passes, as he will only get more familiar and comfortable in the Barca system as the years go by. Don't forget, Xavi started to really star for his team when he turned 26, so Arthur has 4 more years to even get to that point, he could turn out to be something really special, if he stays at Barca for like a decade of course.

Hmm did you watched the match yesterday? I know what you mean but he gave some nice trough balls yesterday so.. It's the same like a striker scores 2 goals and you complain because he scores not enough... Give him time and they will come more regularly, he's still growing every game.

Stats are great. But there are also some stats that are not displayed in football.

For example if you watch Arthur there are a number of times he will close down an opponent causing a forced error which Rakitic or Busquets will then intercept the ball.

We can call this tackle assists (half joking, dont take this too serious).

Arthur, King of press resistance, Kong of tackle assists.

Or the most underrated thing which is his constant movement in the midfield area and making himself available to teammates and vice versa. Controlling the tempo of a game as well. Pretty much what Xavi did the best and what made him such a sheer force for club and country and turned him into one of the most iconic midfielders in football history as teams were built around his genius. A special talent that only few midfielders are blessed with and which most stats-obsessed people never bother to look for as they just look at the amount of goals, assists etc.

It is exactly this special ability that makes Arthur, Arthur. Otherwise he would be another average player with a questionable physique and even more questionable pace. Luckily football is far more than just that.

The sky is the limit with Arthur. If he learns to make those killer passes that Xavi used to make a few times every game on a more frequent basis (as Xavi said this will come with age), he will be a massive, massive player. Already is in many ways. I would not trade him for any midfielder. The better talent compared to de Jong IMO and just what the team needed. Hopefully he will establish himself as a undisputed starter soon.

Control noticeably dropped in the match once him & Alena were replaced with Rakitic - leaving him & Coutinho to combine in midfield with Busquets

I think since this was his 4th consecutive start, maybe Valverde was thinking he was gonna slow down regardless, plus after Alba's mistake, we needed a goal. But yeah, you take a player like Arthur out - and Alena who was also excellent - you lose control especially considering Busquets wasn't having one of his best nights. Thankfully we replaced one of them with Superman Messi so it didn't matter in the end.

I'm what loving about Arthur is his tangible progress on the field. In that first half he played 5 or 6 incisive passes right through Leganes defensive lines, as he's been doing of late. And he's only getting started.
