Arthur

Played poorly, every time he had the ball & Griez or Ansu made a call he just made that famous turn around himself and back passed it

Still did better than FDJ
Exactly, I was so angry anytime I saw Ansu or Griez making runs, cause Arthur would still make a back pass. We so miss Xavi and Iniesta.

I would say he is decent enough for the current level of our team/performance but nothing really more special. He offers stability in terms of possession but that is his max contribution IMO. Good enough for the current transitional period and am satisfied with that.

I'd say he is still slow, but technique and creativity was at a good level vs Getafe. There are times where he could've taken more risk and opted for the safe pass, sure, and I think he needs to pass faster and move faster, but let's hope he'll get there. Because technique on the ball is top class. Rarely see anyone taking the ball off him without a foul. That is a huge and rare quality to possess. Actually I think he might be the most press resistant player out there, the hardest to take the ball off from.

This is giving him a great advantage, but he needs to develop his other areas to consistently turn this advantage into something special.

Whats this even about? Bad timing. He has been decent to great the last few games (well, only started once..). His only issues right now are fitness related, he has shown some incredible passing lately as well (and in the beginning of the season).

Both Arthur and De Jong need to learn the advanced one-touch passing philosophy and generally get rid of the ball quicker. And i don't see why they couldn't. The hogging and making all those turns seems unnecessary in many situations. One has to develop better decision making of when to turn and wiggle to shake off opponents and when to quickly circulate the ball. Other than that the shit they get from Witnesses of Valverde is bollocks.

Your right. They do both need to play more one touch passes. Especially de Jong who seems to always want to run with the ball instead of being more aware of a first time pass to a teammate. There was an instance near the end of the game yesterday where messi should have received a first time pass in a triangle like passing move and de Jong tried to control it and ended up losing it and messi had a word with him which must have been about this

They don't have it, you can't teach players to think and find solutions faster. You get more knowledgeable as you age, but not smarter.

They can. For example, Iniesta was rage inducingly inefficient and ball hogging with his dribbles until around age 24, when he started to get more out of them and actually create end product. Lot of player get more efficient with age and proper coaching. Also, we have seen some absolutely stunning passes and vision from both at times, which means they had it in them, but is subdued.

He has to increase, anyway his worth is incontestable.

Anyway, if the comparison is always Xavi-Iniesta, then is absolutely useless to discute.

Arthur need to improve his use of the ball. He is neat in possession and slick when pressured but there are far too many times that there are players open where he can advance the ball but he turns away and makes a simple pass that achieves nothing.

He doesnt seem to have in the bag the way the likes of Scholes, Kroos and Xavi at times can zing a ball cross field to players in space.

To be fair to him Setien is starting to position midfield three in straight line and wide apart in order to cover full backs and Messi lack of pressing. Exact same thing EV did and cant be enjoyable for likes of FDJ and Arthur to play in.

Yeah sure every time this guy play like trash (which is like 90% of the time) it's Messi fault
