Lol, he's perfect. Just the type of player we needed. Problem is don't start him when we have to do build-up. Put him on as soon as we decide we want to defend mostly. It's a nightmare to attack on this guy's side, he's a monster who does 10 tackles a minute.

Exactly. I don't see us losing to Rome 3-0 with him.

I have noticed that we tend to agree on many issues involving Barça and football in general, however your criticism of Vidal always stroke me as rather strange. Sure he is not your typical "smooth" Barça midfielder but he does his job fairly well in terms of distribution all things considered. Not to mention that he adds elements to the team and our midfield that no other player adds. Hence my praise of him since day one.

His performance against RM yesterday night should have given you a glimpse of what a fully rested Vidal can offer. I expect more of such in the CL knockout stages in games where we need to defend our lead should the team get past Lyon.

I think that he has had a very decent first season for us so far.

Unlike similarly atypical signings such as Murillo and KPB, he is lightyears ahead of both combined. It's not even funny.

Vidal's performances over the last two or three months disappointed me. Especially when combined with Rakitic in central midfield and as a starter. As a fresh pair of legs - going up against tired legs - he seems much more useful.

Watching Man City tear Chelsea up 6-0 by fielding technicians while watching us struggle against a 10-men Girona, Valencia at home, Bilbao away, Sevilla away was a depressing period for me and Vidal was probably our worst player in that run.

After Ivan's horrid first half of the season, I wanted Vidal to start but the truth is, Rakitic outperformed him and I'd much rather see one of Alena or even Sergi in midfield than two of Vidal and Rakitic. Unless Ivan is playing as a 6 to rest Busquets they shouldn't be on the field together, I don't think.

I posted here a while ago the journalists at Cope or Cadena Ser said on the radio that Vidal is much better off finishing games rather than starting them and that's becoming more and more true.

If he can come on the pitch and help us see out games like he did last night, I'm more than happy to see the energy he brings to the team.

Now for an overall assessment of his season so far, if Paulinho is the parameter (as Valverde alluded he was going to be in pre-season) then he's disappointed me a bit - but he can still turn it around. But I reiterate, watching him over the last 2 months has been infuriating.

Edit:

On a positive note, Vidal has not been our flop of the season though, that one is Coutinho's to keep.

Murillo played 2 games and did well actually. But he was never coming here as Valencia's 4th choice CB to be a mainstay in the squad.

Boateng is a joke signing a la Douglas.

Edit 2.0:

Arturo throwing a fit on social media after we had just beat Tottenham at Wembley on what was our best performance of the season to date, one that turned out fate around, rubbed me the wrong way. Bayern were happy to discard him in the summer, he was about to sign for a decadent Inter Milan, we gave him a shot and he turned up here thinking he was Mr Bigshot already? Again, for all his flaws, Paulinho never did that. And he bagged us 10 goals.

Vidal should obviously never be paired with the likes of Busquets and Rakitic who are all 30+ years old (as well) and not the quickest guys (as well). We need a distributor, destroyer and creator in the midfield at any given moment hence why the Busquets-Arthur-Rakitic midfield might possibly be the best what we can master right now. Busquets being the "destroyer", Arthur the "creator" and Rakitic the "distributor". All while Busquets and Rakitic being able to act as both the distributor (when needed) and destroyer. At times even Busquets can be rather creative.

That awful Busquets-Vidal-Rakitic midfield trio that the likes of BBZ were advocating is a horrid midfield whenever we need to create. To keep a lead it is an OK midfield trio.

Vidal best role is obviously coming off the pitch to close a lead (like yesterday) or to make runs into the box and looking for a goal (as well as being a threat from the outside or on standard situation).

I am definitely for giving Rakitic more rest (he has played WAY too much for WAY too long) and giving Aleñá more playing time as well as Roberto on the right on the midfield with Semedo and Dembélé behind and in front of him.

Sure, Murillo is an OK player but not our level (even as a 4th CB IMO), rather give Todibo playing time against scrubs on paper and those garbage minutes. Certainly not worth paying €25 million for and I rather give Todibo those minutes since I expect him to have a future here if given the chance. Or even the likes of Vermaelen although he is made of glass and losing his legs this season but I think that I would trust him more than Murillo in a high profile game. Definitely would last season at least.

Agree on 100% on everything.

And I was just being cordial with Murillo, no one is paying that for him and he's nowhere near our level. I just won't bash him since when we had that injury crisis at CB (which is why we signed him out of desperation really) he did well in the 2 games he played. He's OK but midtable level at best.

This was probably his best start in 3 months. That miscontrol which led to Rayo's counter and subsequent goal aside, he was decent on the ball, and solid defensively. Good performance.
