Simeone did great with ATM but his time at the club is done. The cycle is over.
It's time to build on those foundations and take the next step now. Winning the CL and playing a better style of Football.
The club needs a change.
This whole idea about cycles is total horse manure. Between 2001 and 2006 man united only won 1 PL and every fool in football screamed the cycle is over, the cycle is over. Wrong, the cycle had not even begun. The best years of Man United under Ferguson were still AHEAD of them. And anyone with half a braincell could tell all United needed were are few key players that could make the difference.
The situation with Atletico Madrid is very similar in that the club has extraordinary Swiss watch levels of regularity and what has been missing is a few key players that can make the difference. Some poor signings and a lot of transfer money wasted and still Simeone has managed to maintain the extraordinary high level of regularity (Averaging 23 wins a season over the last 11 years).
United under Ferguson averaged 24 win a season from 1993 up until 2006, then it jumped up to 28 when he signed Cristiano Ronaldo. Simeone is very close averaging 23 wins a season and is only really missing a proper goalscorer to take the club to the next level.
Also, Simeone has had to contend with competing in one of the least competitive leagues in Europe in the last decade, still amassing 869 points in his first 11 full seasons winning 2 leagues. Ferguson by comparison amassed 879 points between 1995 and 2006 and it won him 6 PL titles. If Barcelona and Real Madrid had not been so ridiculously over powered he would have won more leagues. Ferguson won the 96-97 league on 75 points, a tally Simeone has exceeded in 9 of his first 11 seasons.
