Aymeric Laporte

I would do that but I don't know which rightback could replace Alves to be frank. FYI: I wouldn't sell Alba for Mathieu. I want them as a pair and ditch Adriano.

He is 1 year older than Adriano. Ditching Adriano for Mathieu would be the sensible thing. Alba and Adriano are too similar anyway (small wingbacks with more offensive than defensive qualities).

But you do understand that we are not going to sell Alba anyway.

Ryan, you're playing with my feelings here. If this doesn't happen I will find you. And then I will manipulate your bicycle. Be warned.

An established CB would have been the smarter transfer but we're heavily restricted. The market itself doesn't have many players for a decent price with the profile we need that are willing to come. Hummels would be the one with the least glaring flaws (not coming though). Added to that, our squad isn't near reinforced enough nor do we have a healthy transfer influx for us to afford to take a slight gamble with smart scouting (which we don't even have). Given the parameters of the ban, we have no choice but to panic buy and accept overspending. What Barca are doing this window is primarily damage control, so no option would ever be 100% perfect.

Well, "the market", in our case consists of "scouting" CBs from the richest clubs in the PL. I am sure the market has plenty of options for us if we want to look a little deeper than CBs playing for Chelsea, City etc... After all, none of the CBs currently playing for the best teams in the world were bought from other rich clubs like we seem obsessed with doing.

Can't disagree with that. The issue for me revolves around value for current expected production, though it really becomes obsolete if the player lives up to the promise. 36M for Laporte right now won't be buying you a 36M quality player, even though his ceiling is way beyond that, he shoes a lot of promise.

Though I do agree, the circumstances are less than ideal.

I wonder if we would manage to get Benatia for 35m.

meh, he was just bought by Juve a year ago for 13.5m. If we actually had brains, we would have bought him then. Obviously, we didnt think he was good enough a year ago, and he isnt exactly a spring chicken.

Why not relieve AC Milan of De Sciglio? He can play both fullback positions right? Same deal with Serge Aurier.

Edit: I mean at least they would be younger options.

I think you're confused. Benatia plays for Roma and is 27 years old.

Benatia would have been better for around the same price, perhaps lower. I wouldn't be too pissed if we got Laporte though, he should at least be a great buy for the future, plus he'd be an immediate improvement to our current defense (not that that's saying much), even though he won't be as much of an immediate improvement as Benatia. He's overpriced, but who isn't?

The clown in your avatar cost 3 times as much and finishes like prime Alexis Sanchez.

Or 4 times. No one knows.

Ouch.

Also I don't think Benatia could be got for 35M. Roma got 35M for a prospect in Marquinhos. They're not going to sell Serie A's and, arguably, the world's best central defender for the same amount.

Bartra can play as our RB. He is tall and great in the air and has the profile we are looking for to balance our left side.

France got some CB talent.

Mangala, Varane, Laporte, Sakho (if he can sort himself out) along with established stars like Konscielny.
