I bumped into this twitter thread with all the winners and runners up since 2000.
Some decisions in there are laughable. And it got me thinking...
Who SHOULD the winner have been each year?

Belligham now? Not in a million years

Interesting choices of Kahn, Neuer and Robbern

I am happy that I see many of us here agreeing that Salah was robbed in 2018 by the Perez mafia

Oliver Kahn did wonder saves throughout the WC tournament, carrying one of the most mediocre German teams ever to the final. Rudi Voller was the coach back then, he didn't practice the profession after this. Of course they didn't meet any big opponents, but neither did Brazil with only England standing their way with foolish Seaman being posterized with the Ronaldinho cross.

It's either Bellingham or Vinicius.

P.S. - R.I.P. to Sven-Göran Eriksson, who passed away today.

I hope Vini wins it between the two. Based on Real he should win it. Unfortunately for him Euro and Copa happened. That will likely put Bellingham as the favourite.

Nooo way Jorginho deserved it despite what he won. He got gold medals for winning those trophies, doesn't deserve a Ballon too as he wasn't the best player in the world.

Criteria got redefined as voting not for the 'best player in the world', but the one 'contributing the most to best collective achievements'
Jorginho had a strong case, as his teams topped collective achievements at club and country

in 2012 Messi was scoring like crazy but his gameplay was worse than in previous years and he won only Copa, i prefer 2012-Ronaldo, he was a beast outside the box, inside the box, dribbling was top - even @KingLeo10 fear this version of Cristiano

thats why i put Ney over Ronaldo in 2017, Ronaldo's cl run was unique but gameplay-wise Ney was unbelievable 🥹
Pipe down and stop tagging me ya donkey

There is no way Rodri wins, maybe if City had won the CL. It si between Vini and Bellingham, most likely Bellingham, with Mbappe being 3rd.
