Would agree that Veratti has not been all that brilliant v Barca bar a couple of games in the past few years but he is levels above Nzonzi as a player.
Nzonzi is decent but still has had quite a few poor games this season and for me is not the level required if looking to rebuild this Barca midfield.
If there is one thing we are lacking in this team its not good passers, neither is it speed.
There are only 2 players in this world who can afford us what we lack in the squad at the moment ( Height and strength) they are Nzonzi and Matic.
They might not be the most technically gifted but they sure do offer defensive and offensive potentials.
I'd go with necessity over luxury.
We have a lot of young players who can play in the same position as Veratti.
We need to fix our defense and midfield. . . If at all I'd break the bank for any midfielder atm, it will be Thiago even though he is a snake.

Gomes? B2B MF in a counter-attacking setup as he played with Benfica and Valencia
Alena? He's still some way off the 1st team and we have to see what he brings even though I have high hopes.
Thiago? You just said we need player to add height and strength. Is Thiago that? You just contradicted yourself here.
Difference between all of the young midfielders we have is that Verratti actually is a centre midfielder and a World Class one at that. We lack creativity and control in the midfield along with agility and some pace. Verratti can provide all of that along with being decent defensively.
Real Madrid have Modric and Kroos as their CMs. Control + Creativity.
Bayern have Thiago and Vidal. Offering control + creativity and Vidal's technically gifted offensively, far more so than Matic ever has been or could.

Matic is not good enough for Barca and Nzonzi is good but doesnt bring the control back to midfield.
Focusing on areas such as 'height and strength' above technical ability are the reasons the midfield is poor. Adding one of those two wouldnt address what Barca needs.

No, he brings way too much trouble.
Regarding CM, honestly I see only two names who could improve our midfield immediately and those are Verratti or Thiago. I still can't believe we were able to lose Thiago.
For example Bernardo Silva is also hugely talented player and I love Coutinho but they are more WINGERS or CAM. They are not central midfield players so I don't think they would add so much needed balance in our team.
Regarding RB I have no idea who should we sign. The thing I know is that Bellerin and Cancelo are disastrous in defense! Signing one of them would potentially create a huge problem since we need defensively strong player to cover Messi side of the pitch since he is not playing defense at all. This RB has to be strong in defense but also able to contribute in the attack, and above all he must have strong stamina. Honestly this is not an easy find. We are basically looking for young Alves.

Eh, its the oposite, we dont need height and strength. Were not a EPL team. Besides we have Suarez, Pique and now Umtiti that are good in air.
We need speed, technique and passing.
Gomes and Arda are lacking in all of those.
Denis is lacking in technique and passing, so are Rafinha.
There are some midfield players with good passingabilities, but most are them are using longball passes, which we dont need.
We are much better with short traianglepassing and cuttroughpasses on the ground.
After Xavi and Pirlo theres pretty much only two players that fits that mold. Verratti and Gündogan.
Dahoud is to early to say and have had a soso season.
Bernardo Silva could play in Iniestas position but hes not a balldistibutor.

Well it's been a couple of years since we bought a Arsenal player (Verm) and we need to fill that quota.
and he's Catalan and came through La Masia like Cesc so that's a even bigger bonus to the Board.
Arsenal are disintegrating from the inside. Ozil and Sanchez both look as if they are desperate to leave.
Bellerin may follow them out the door if the big names abandon ship. I personally hope that Bellerin was telling the truth when he said that he wouldn't answer any calls from Barca. I really don't want him here. He will cost too much and his transfer will mean that we will not spend the necessary money we need to spend in midfield.

RB should be our top priority in the summer without a doubt. It's embarasing how much points we lost this season because of that, not to mention we changed formation and played half of our players outside of the position because we had no proper RB. This has to stop! So RB first and than we can talk about midfield.
There is no midfielder in the world who can compensate that hole in defense on our right side. I am totally for braking a bank to get Verratti but I am also strongly against playing one more season without proper RB.
