Are there rumors linking us to Rabiot? Shouldn't miss on him, IMO.
No, what screwed us up with Thiago was Tito being dumb af keep playing strongest XI when there was not need to at all, which led to Thiago not getting enough minutes which made him unhappy and also kept his release clause low. Had Tito played Thiago just a little more, his clause wouldh have gone up and he might have been here today.
Not only Tito but also the board. They said 20M for a benchplayer was a great deal little did they know 20M gets you half an Andre Gomes or half an Arda Turan.
If we play 4 midfielders, including Coutinho, then there will be a lot of room for midfielders. I just dont like trying to fit Coutinho into a 3 man midfield, playing far from the goal and trying to squeeze Griezmann, Messi, Dembele and Suarez into a formation up front. I think it will be more like trying to fit Cesc into our 3 man midfield. We'd be weakened both attacking wise and defensively IMO and will lose the midfield battle many times. Another player who isnt talked about much would be Fabinho, who is still a Monaco player. He would add some more strength to our midfield.
Don't know about that.
Let's say we'll play the same 4-4-2 we do now, so we have:
Coutinho-Rakitić-Busquets-Dembele
(Denis???-Paulinho-Arthur-Alena)
with Griezmann probably also being used as RM/LM in some games. In reality it would be more 4-2-2-2 with him and Cou playing higher (so close to 4-2-3-1 with Messi dropping deeper) on the wings but tracking back (which they both can do) so we wouldn't be too exposed defensively.
I didn't mention Roberto because there are no indications as of now that EV plans to use him more in midfield but he could also be in the mix as a backup for either DM, CM or RM positions if Semedo will establish himself as starting RB.
So at best I see one potential spot for a new midfielder but that someone would mainly be a backup to Coutinho who wouldn't play much so we could just keep Denis here as well eventhough I'm not his biggest fan but it's true he can be useful in some games.
Also, we don't have a non-EU spot for Fabinho.
I agree with this. So, we'd have, Busquets, Rakitić, Denis, Coutinho, Alena, Paulinho. On top of that Denis, Coutinho and Alena are attacking oriented and not as complete as Iniesta.Getting Arthur and De Jong is great, as is promoting Alena but i feel like this comes a bit late because it pretty much just sets up for 2019/2020 but not next season.
On one hand we are waiting for these talents to come in but on the other we need to get rid of a lot of players because they aren't good enough.
IN: Griezmann, Alena, Arthur (Winter)
OUT: Vidal, Paco, Iniesta, Gomes, Denis
That would leave us with just Sergio, Rakitic, Paulinho, Coutinho, Alena for the first half of the season and then Arthur will need some time to adapt.
Even if Denis stays that would be pretty thin/weak since our only really proven CM would be Rakitic. Paulinho shouldn't be a starter option and we still can't be sure how Cou plays in the Iniesta role. Denis isn't really a factor, Alena can probably just take his spot without us noticing a difference.
Would rather get another CM this summer and sell Denis as well but then it would be harder to play Alena, Arthur, De Jong unless we sell Rakitic next summer.
If we don't go for another CM this summer we should try everything to bring in Arthur earlier so he can play a bigger role next season.
Should definatly go for De Ligt while hes still "cheap". He would also probably be fine beeing a backup/rotation player which is good to phase him in.
De ligt is already expenive, his agent is Raiola and Man City are preparing mega offer for him
