Barca Transfers and Rumors

I don't get why some of you want EV to drop 4-4-2?

It worked for a while but at the end of the season opponents adjust to it and it wasn't working anymore. It helped our defense at first but later in the season it just destroyed our offensive game. See Rome game. We went there to lose. This is not how Barca team is build. Teams like ManU, Chelsea can park the bus but not Barcelona. We just don't have the player types for that type of play.

Not to mention 442 is boring.

what I find a bit interesting is this:

Busquets? Most Barca fans think he is GOAT dm and just behind Messi in importance

Rakitic? Everyone suggesting replacing him on r/barca gets tons of downvotes, voted our best player after Messi this season on r/barca

Coutinho? Almost every Barca fan rates him

Yet there are always complaints about how poor our midfield is, especially when it comes to Messi/Ronaldo discussions where many say that Ronaldo is lucky to play with such great midfielders while Messi is stuck playing with an average midfield. If Griezmann signs, then Coutinho will likely be our 3rd midfielder and the above three players will probably form our starting midfield. So I'm struggling to understand how the popular opinion seems to be that our midfield is poor and needs improvement, while at the same time most fans on here highly rate all of our midfielders and don't want any of them to be replaced.

If you read posts on Barcaforum, then you know almost everyone thinks we should get an upgrade on Rakitić.

Coutinho hasn't played as a main man in the midfield yet so we know nothing about it.

I think Ronaldo complains come from the fact Messi has to create everything for himself, while Ronaldo waits for others do the dirty work for he gets the glory.

Busquets is great when you have the ball, but If we want to keep playing Valverde type of football(set the bus), I don't think he is good option. He is just not that good defensively, he is weak and slow in defense and quite often he just gets run past. There's no denying he can be liability in defense when opponent is coming with speed.

Rakitic and Busi in midfield is just too slow for modern day football vs top teams. We need to add speed, badly.. I guess I've said that 20 times already but this team lacks fast and fresh legs.

Either way I'm sick of watching Barca crumble in CL year after year. We need to change something, obviously.. Because it is not working at all.

Selling Rakitic to ManU for 60 million sounds like a good idea to me. Sell Suarez as well. I think these are the guys we need to replace If we seriously want to challenge for CL again. Get proper striker, replace Rakitic with faster, younger player. I think it would give a lot of energy and new ambition to this team. It's why Zidane left, when you can't motivate the team, either change it or leave yourself. I think Barcelona players are too entitled and too happy with all their trophies.. We need some new and hungry players to come in and win us few CL again!

This team is lacking in fighting spirit because they won everything 10 times already. Sign some new players and get rid of some old ones.

I still think it's a smart decision to buy Griezmann. Of course his wage will be high but we got rid of some pretty high salaries over the last year with Neymar, Iniesta, Masche, Arda,... all gone and some more of the deadweight probably offloaded in summer. Yes, we've signed Coutinho and Dembele while Messi, Roberto and Pique got new contracts but I don't think our wage situation is as bad anymore.

Don't know if those wage numbers are correct but I've seen similar reported on multiple sites so I'll use them.

https://www.sportskeeda.com/football/la-liga-2017-barcelona-player-salaries

https://sillyseason.com/salary/fc-barcelona-players-salaries-69077/

Neymar: £275,000/week
Iniesta: £165,000
Mascherano: £130,000
Mathieu: £90,000
Arda: £85,000

are all gone since 2017.

Contract renewals:

Messi: I've seen reports his weekly wages will be around £500k, so that's about £165k more
Rakitić: £55k more after contract renewal
Roberto: £50k more after contract renewal
Pique: £35k more after contract renewal
MATS: £30k more after contract renewal

New signings:
Coutinho: £200,000 - £240,000 (I've seen different numbers reported; we only paid half of his wages this season)
Dembele: £200,000 - £250,000 (I've seen different numbers reported)
Paulinho: £120,000
Semedo: £75,000
Deulofeu: £75,000 (only paid half of that this season)
Mina: £68,000 (only paid half of that this season)

With very simplified calculations (without including bonuses etc. because those are unknown to me) we could say that:

- Coutinho is getting Neymar's wage (though with less bonuses and whatever else we paid to Neymar and his dad)
- we will basically give Iniesta's wage to Messi
- Mascherano's salary were used for improvement in contracts for MATS/Pique, Roberto and Raki
- Mathieu and Arda leaving are almost covering for Paulinho and Semedo wages.
- Mina was only here for 6 months and his wages in that time were probably covered with both Rafinha and Deulofeu going on loan.

So the only new big cost for the club are Dembele's wages and we can cover for that next season selling players on high wages like Paco, Gomes and Vidal.

Arthur, Lenglet and whoever else we'll buy obviously won't play for free and Umtiti, Busquets and probably Alba (though I hope not for now) will get new contracts as well but with new sponsorship contracts (Nike, Rakuten) and approved budget around 900M€ I think we can afford to give Griezmann 15m net. Of course it would be ideal if we could just give him Suarez's wages (meaning selling him) but we know this won't happen, at least not next season.

Personally I'm not against paying top money to get worldclass players (and AG is no doubt among them) but we should lower wages of squad/bench players so I hope we'll be smart here when giving contracts to Arthur, Lenglet,... Let them first prove their worth and we can always improve their contracts in a year or two (when some of the higher paid players like Suarez and Rakitić willl also probably leave) if they'll succeed but if they'll fail we can sell them easier with lower wages.

Good post.

Truth be told, it was under Laporta when this started as he stated top players needed to be paid top money.

Think we should have taken a different stance. You come to Barca to play with the best and win trophies, not your final big pay. It did work with signing some players who agreed to less wages than they had so I don't see why they weren't more consistent with it. Would also help if we had a set structure of wage classes.

It is a big problem which is a big weight on the club and it's future and I think there should be more discussions about it but we never see it in Catalan press.

But how can you possibly justify being cheap and withholding big paychecks from the star/important players when you freely give out high wages to the scrubs as well? Barca has dug itself into a hole with wages, paying small fortunes to players who deserve the bare minimum. Like the inflation of the transfer market, this only goes in one direction.

Barca inflated the wages of the bottomfeeders at the club AND got pushed around financially by Neymar and his dad, players are going to demand more based on their relative worth at the club. Which is only fair, why should the players carrying us to titles be paid less or comparatively to the likes of Gomes, Paulinho, or Paco? All of them are piss poor players on absurd contracts. Barca created this mess and there really is no way out of it for the long run. All they can do is clear out the unreasonable contracts for poor players and slow the inflation on the contracts of the stars.

Don’t know about Skirinar, and I doubt he will be better than the current options
De Light, Upamaenco and Lenglet are good options, De Light is the top one if we can get him this will be great replacement for Pique

He we go again , planning for the future when it's NOW that we need action !!

We planned for the future two years ago when we signed 5 or 6 players in the summer all aged 22 ... look how that turned out :(

We will get players like Griezmann and Lenglet who will help us now.

If we can get De Ligt (I doubt) and De Jong (possible) and leave them on loan at Ajax this would be a great deal, don't know why anyone would complain about this.

And that summer of 22 didn't really turned out as bad as many people say. We got a great longterm starter and 2-3 serviceable backups.
