Our defense used to collapse against a good team because of the little defensive effort by Suarez and Messi. Against Bayern it felt like we were playing with 9 men.

True. Although I think if every player helps the defense, Pique and Lenglet will be more protected. It's not like Boateng is better than Legnlet/Pique. Similar quality but better teammates around him who mask his weaknesses.

Bayern actually did quite well playing with Boateng and a converted CB Alaba against us. In the final it was Sule and Alaba against Neymar, Mbappe, Di Maria. They did a pretty good job tbh considering they're not world class defenders. The thing with Bayern is their structure, organization and they can run unlike our slowpokes. Even if you get past them you still have Neuer to deal with. They don't shit themselves when under sustained pressure either.

I do also think that Pique and Lenglet are not bad. The issue is our team hasn't adapted to the modern game. No team really defends with just the back 4 now. Strikers defend now too. It was actually a highlight of our defense during Pep's time. Xavi, Iniesta, Pedro, and sometimes even Messi would track back instantly. Also a lot more pressing back then, so even when we did lose the ball, we tried really hard to get it back within 10 secs. Those values have been lost in the last 5 years.

We could never steal the ball from Bayern because Messi and Suarez never press. Pressing is defending too. Bayern had zero problem coming out of their zone becaus your lack of speed upfront. Not to mention the lack of speed in counter attacks.

Do you actually believe players will press for 90 minutes while being the forward to score and the lone creator of chances at their age of 30+. Are you people here complaining when Barca is winning, Messi is walking since his multiple injury in 2013. You might see him trying to press from time to time but it's actually a waste of energy

Best thing is, that this board full of retarded idiots right now dont have money to buy thiago for 30m and lets say wijnaldum for 20m.

We would have so much depth and versatility with them, we'd finally get some legs and mobility with fdj, thiago and wijnaldum would be science fiction thing compared to busi rakitic and vidal.
