Barca Transfers and Rumors

They can wait one more year for Lewa replacement. He has been mostly just fine.

Get Nico for the LW and Barca goes up another level. If he is impossible then try to find the best LW available. Raphinha is doing great but we need 2 players for forward roles. He can cover LW and RW allowing more rest. Nico on Barca locks in Yamal from ever leaving.

I told you before. Keep a close eye on Luiz Henrique of Marseille as a Nico alternative.

We should be looking to SA for options as under Flick, Raphi/Lamal will be our first team starters. So we will have a bit of leeway to build a world class prospect.

But we're not wired that way, and especially after Roque even if that was our fault. So best we look at Europes 1.5 clubs and see who's ascending to the next level. That Dortmund kid will be waaaay overpriced though, but Marseille have not set a market selling standard- yet.

F.Polo is saying we are considering going for Diogo Costa in summer.
I would take it with a grain of salt, as Polo has been very unreliable this year, and he says a lot of bs

I was about to mention Diogo in the other thread but think his price (has a 50m clause AFAIK) will be too high for us in current situation. He would also want to come in as a clear No.1 and I'm not sure we'll be in a position to move on from MATS in a year coming off a serious injury. I'm sure Saudis would take him but he'll refuse to leave so we're stuck with him until at least 2027 imo.

Don't see us spending big on a GK in 2025 anyway, maybe in 2026 if Costa will still be in Porto but at that time he'll already be 27. Age clearly not problematic for GKs but if you spend that money then you better hope to have him for 8-10 years on top level at least.

Would also prefer Verbruggen who is younger and has higher upside imo. No doubt he'll be very expensive too so more realistic target is someone like Restes. Mid-term would probably be the best to sign and loan him back to Toulouse (or preferably a club at a higher level) for a season or two to continue developing while bringing a more veteran GK to compete with (and be a healthy insurance for) MATS. Maybe Szcz could be that guy if we'll sign him. But we definitely need to start looking at younger GKs.

Also, loan out Kochen next season if the club believes in him long term. Don't waste his development in Primera RFEF or on the first team bench for too long like we did with other goalies or he'll turn into another Pena although I believe his potential is much higher. Maybe won't be a Barca level GK but think he could be a starter for teams like Sevilla/Betis/Villarreal in few years if he develops properly.

Pena is more a lower table La Liga backup/Segunda starter. Could still have a decent career outside of Barca and I think it would be the best for him to move on (he clearly won't as long as he'll start games here though). For example Jordi Masip played over 100 La Liga games for Valladolid (and another close to 100 in Segunda) and he clearly overstayed here. He still played for Barca B at 25 (granted we were in Segunda back then) and then wasted further three years on the first team bench.

Younger isn't essentially better strategy tbh.

I think GK who are 24-28 are the best signings you make. It us the age that you know what you are getting while still know they will be long term signings (5-10 years).

Think of Alison (25), Ederson (24), Cortouis (27), Navas (27), Raya (28) among others.

When you sign a younger one, you are investing years in his development, has no guarantee that he will be elite, and clubs asks for more based on potential. Barca also have a history of letting GK keeps their bad habits during development.

And in case they became top GK, their renewals became pain in the ass (Stegen with us, Valdes with us, Cortouis with Chelsea).

The best option to replace Stegen won't be a player who is a prospect now, even if we are replacing him happens in few years.

You can give such a promise easily tbh, if ypu mean it.
Ter Stegen won't accept being backup, and it isn't his decision. He will accept a move if we sign a starting GK. Signing someone like Costa is simply a power play. We will have our starting GK set and it will be up for Stegen to miss on a starting spot in the NT or leave.

With that being said, I am not that high on Costa, I still prefer someone like Valles, or someone else who is a late bloomer who isn't warrannting ton of hype.

PS: Restes is abysmal with his foot btw. I am not sure he is good enough of a shoot stopper to warrant the club going for him. Maybe Mycael of Paranense (probably butchered the spelling) or Myo Backhaus

May be insensitive but his injury is fortuitous in pursuing an option with potential to make it his own. Unfortunately liga rules narrows those options until January never mind handcuff them with the lack of FFP relief

I dont think there are long term options now but January I think it has to be the option with potential

if he's actually around 50m as qoted on Transfermarket. Its pretty good.
But if we can get Isak he is miles better. I would much rather have him, if we are able to financially.

Edit: Or even Viktor Gyokeres. I would like these two be looked at first and then anyone else.

That guy is always injured, I would go for Sesko if Gyokeres ist too expensive, because hes never been injured basically.
