I hope he's just waffling after Ornstein said that we appreciate Luis Diaz and what he can provide.
If Deco even thinks about spending 70m for him he should be sent back to Porto with a one-way ticket.
Would be a Bartomeu-era type of signing.
Ok, some in here should cut the load of BS
- a 'Bartomeu-esque' signing would be Leao for 100+m, which the fat bozo is very much in favor...
A flashy to they eye player, who is as consistent as 20yr old Dembele was if not less, and lazier in defending than old Messi and Suarez
- a Bartmoeu-esque signing is NOT a player like Diaz, who works his ass for his team like a 2nd Raphina in pressing and intensity, and is pure class in dribbling and 1v1 situations. We currently have only Lamine who can do that, we desperately lack a profile like his
Now, I understand the price sound too much, and i agree with that.
But given that 1) we want to buy from the top shelf, 2) he has 2.5 more years of contract, 3) Pool not in a need to sell, we should play at least 70m for him. Think that we paid 55m for Olmo and 60m for Raphina from 2nd tier teams.
The good news is that the total cost of a player is not only his transfer fee.
Diaz is severely underpaid at Pool even by their own wage structure (3.4 m gross), while options like Nico or Leao currently get 10m and 6.5 m gross respectively, which means they will get way more than Diaz if they come to Barca
Hence, the total cost of Diaz over a 5 yr contract will be much less than the potential cost of either Nico or Leao
PS: If I were Deco and Fatporta, I would go for a clever option with great estimated projection.
Someone like Gittens from Dortmund
