Awareness and Passing skills are very important for a barca defender. If you are talking about replacing Masch he needs to be fast and a great tackler too.

I remember reading posts on internet (not Barcaforum), before we bought Abidal.
90% of fans and journalists claimed that Abidal is insanely error prone and that in every match he has at least 1-2 "wtf" moments which can lead to a goal.

But, he was a much different player here...

Some players are surely error prone, but imo, some of it is because they play in Las Palmas and different clubs.
Pique and Masch would surely (imo) have way more stupid decisions if they played in Las Palmas with weaker teammates and if you are under a pressure for 90 Minutes in every single match and bombed with crosses, pressure and dribbles all match.

Barca at Camp Nou: an opponent makes an average action once in 5 minutes (I am exaggerating, but you get the point).
This is why even Bartra looks like a lion at Camp Nou matches. (We have 2-3 defenders against their lone striker and we easily take the ball back in 9 out of 10 actions).

So, if this Las Palmas guy has some talent, a lot of his error-proneness will disappear in Barca.
(on the other hand, he can always turn into Douglas, but...)

** About experienced Cb, I am sure that we will buy one youngster and a Mathieu vol2.
30-ish years old, experienced, proven, relatively safe and cheap player.

Like Bravo and Mats story.

Yeah sure.
We have also seen how pique makes good number of errors when we are playing a team on form with good attack e.g atletico in the ucl, bayern 7-0, and a number of el classicos.
Why buy a 30ish yr old CB?
We have three out of five, and pique is close to 30 as well

Douglas was clear money laundering and isn't even good enough to play in Segunda. No one we get from La Liga or any top 5 league will be another Douglas.

As for this Lemos guy, could be worth a punt for <8m, but if we're signing him I hope our scouts have done their homework. You need good scouting if you want success with signing less well-known players.

Barcelona sources confirm they made enquiries about centre back Mauricio Lemos (20) but they did the same for several other players. [cope]

We're different kind of club. Barca needs players to succeed faster. Not much time for adaptation or room for mistakes or wait a year and see what happens.
Every draw or loss here can mean your rivals are edging you out. One of the drawbacks of being the best team in the world competing for all trophies.

Having said that, I'd still love to have him on board.

We don't need an experianced CB.

Of course we do if we want to make over 30 dream team. :mathieu:

Exactly, great post.

And it's not like Monchi is faultless either. He signed players like Immobile and Kakuta last year, who didn't work out for them. But of course most people will only remember his good signings and forget bad ones. In contrast to what they are doing when talking about our transfers. People keep complaining about Arda and forgot to praise our board to bring in great players like MATS or Rakitic relatively cheaply.
