I don't see what's the big urgency.
We all agree Mascherano can easily be our starter for another season (at least) and that Mathieu is good backup.

Yeah, I agree with Bojan here. I also wouldn't exactly call it a disappointment to lose out on Marquinhos and Laporte. Plenty other (fatter) fish in the sea than those two.

There's an urgency given Bartra and Vermaelen are leaving this Summer.

Might be other fish in the sea, but our management seem to focus on a handful of them. Just don't want another Vermaelen situation here.

Yeah, no more Vermaelens, that we can agree on.
However if Marquinhos decides to stay put, he'll end the low key flirting with us, meaning we should finally look elsewhere. And Laporte joining City will mean he's crossed off the list as well.

I still think the persistent rumors indicate that were scoping broader this summer than in a long time. Lots of different players of varying pedigree have been linked with us for a while now.

According to Cat Radio, Lucho and Robert have a meeting this week to discuss the transfer market.

we still need some talented young defenders and start to replace some of the older ones at some point.

It isn't urgency, but it is more about to act than react.3 old CBs and Vermaelen & Bartra leaving.
You can't deny that the smart thing is to get someone who can be 3rd choice CB next season and take over Mascherano in a year or two.

Looks like we're in for another disappointing summer when it comes to our CB signing if this is anything to go by.

http://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbo...marquinhos-mas-lejos-que-nunca-del-barca.html

Seems like other players like Mustafi and Gimenez aren't really that big of alternatives yet, and after Marquinhos intending to stay at PSG after given assurances he'll start at the CB position alongside Thiago Silva(D.Luiz moving to midfield) and Laporte presumably close to joining Man City, we could be in for another summer with disappointments.

Still early days of course, but if they cannot sign a young, competent CB this Summer then you really gotta wonder what's wrong with the technical team. Years after years.

You answered yourself in the last line,It is too early.
Sure we all want to get deal done as soon as possible but things doesn't always work that way.there is a reason why the market open in July and end by September/end of August.
Also, the only player that we knew we made an offer and actually tried to sign was Lemos, the story was leaked from the Canarian club to their media and later the Catalan press picked the story. When such thing happen after being linked with dozens of names it tells you that MD doesn't know as much as they think when it comes to transfer plans.Again it seems that Robert is keeping his cards close to him.
I mean if google translate is giving me a semi-accurate translation, then this guy is just recycling what we already know.

Not sure he is the answer for anytime soon. We need a high quailty defender ideally.

For the future, sure, but next season a good prospect like Lemos (or similar kind of transfer) could be enough. Essentially were looking at a 4th spot CB, who can push Mathieu for 3rd spot. If said prospect is good enough, he'll get plenty of minutes, and if he's too raw, he won't see much playtime, just as Vermaelen and Bartra didn't.

But yeah, if we get the chance to sign a seriously promising (and thus accordingly expensive) young CB this summer, we should seize the opportunity, but as I see it, it's still no pressing matter.

Next summer will be a real challenge as we will probably have to replace Dani Alves and look seriously for Mascherano's and Iniesta's successor.

Maybe save the cash for then. In perfect scenario Tarin and Alena make a big leap and Vidal makes an 180 turn. We can hope.

Alves replacement is tough, should hope for Aleix turnaround. Seriously lacking good or even decent rb-s in the world.

Iniesta is a club legend, but there are plenty of "fish" in the sea in that area, some superstars some emerging. Would be a bit "easier".

Exactly. And IF we'd buy Pogba, he'd have a different role here than in Juventus. Then people would probably complain why he doesn't have the same amount of assists and goals that he has now. Just look at Rakitic. He doesn't lack creativity. He had around 15-20 assists per season in Sevilla but his role now is different. The same for Iniesta. He's still one of the most creative midfielders in the world but he plays different now than under Pep. I don't understand how some people don't see this.

Some people get it. Midfield possession is good when you want to control the game but can be very predictable. Our style is different now.

People single out Arda and Rakitic but it's clear Lucho has the midfield doing alot of defensive work.
