Also Zidane didn't always step up in big moments like some people would have you believe, he was in 3 CL finals and only won one.

El Guadiana, your post about Gerrard is hilarious...

I'm glad you find it hillarious...exactly how i felt when i saw someon comparing Xavi to Zidane ...oh wait he actually put him above Zidane.

To clear the air I dont rate Stevei G over Xavi but when I see statements like Xavi is a level above Iniesta and Zidane then I know the poster is obviously biased and its funny that he thinks Zidane is regarded like a diety well same goes for Xavi. Bearing in mind this are all world class players exhibiting different traits on the pitch. Live with it majority of people of people outside this forum wld pick Zidane as the greatest of all time. If the comparison was with Fat Ronaldo then I wld bite my tongue and acknowledge the point.

As for Cruyff and co i never saw them play and watching the highlight reels of their games and the tapes, the pressing system was so completely different then to what we have at the moment and the pace of the game was alot slower till the backpass rules etc changed the face of the modern game. I watch Geoirge Best dribble and in no way am I convinced that his "dribbling" wld be as efective against modern defences the way Messi, Robben and Ribery try and dribble past defenders with pace, because he seemed to have a century to dwell on the ball and contemplate their next move...Anyway without going on too much
to those that think Xavi is greater than Zidane, without a critical analysis of their game laid before my eyes wld have to do with my reply
" Steven Gerald is a class above Xavi"

Yeah I was about to say, he didn't exactly lay out his own critical analysis...unless it was "gerald(and yes that's how he spells it) is better than xavi"

Wtf...

... really some people should just be quiet instead of posting rubbish

zidane carried them?

are you sure?

coulda sworn spain were level with them until aragones withdrew raul, who had been marking makelele magnificently. with maka free to direct play, zidane suddenly came to the fore.

against brazil he rolled back the years, for sure, but then zidane has always been good at punishing dysfunctional brazilian teams (see '98).

didn't do much against portugal except score a penalty that shouldn't have been a penalty.

ditto in the final. oh and he missed an easy chance in extra time and got sent off, losing his team the world cup. nice one, zizou!

This thread is filled with gold bullshit

Look Rivaldo i respect you dude but really if there is any man for the big occasions it is Zidane
surely you attribute that the TEAM lost but for example the CL where Juve lost he was voted CL midfielder of the year , he was never known for his goal scoring but as a creator .. he always shined and carried his team when it mattered for all Juventus fame they are not really a CL power house as people think .. they lost 5 finals and won just 2
World cup, Euro, CL final .. the man is awesome and make the team tick .. it's like judging Xavi solely on his goals
stepping up doesn't mean just scoring goals especially when it's not his job but others

As for Meta post he is lately a big revisionist i'm not even bothered to elaborate or explain but i know he made a totally opposite post on Zidane in the old forum about the WC but that's typical Meta
