Hmm tough one. To me, it's between Eto'o and Villa. Villa was more consistent, Eto'o was better in his peak years. I basically choose Eto'o because I like him better :)

Strong cases could be made for RVN and Shevchenko as well. After all, Shevchenko was the only one in this lot to win the Ballon d'Or and Rudd was top scorer in three different leagues, a unique feat.

Honestly, Eto'o shits all over Villa, Ibra and Trezeguet.
Props to Henry, Ruud and Sheva though.
In conclusion:

Catalonian Devil

Shukran Pep
Ruud: 0 CL
Raul: 1 CL
Shevchenko: 1 CL

no international honours.

both Raul and Ruud have had more than one low-scoring season in the last decade. plus Shevchenko stopped being a force in 2006 when he moved to Chelsea. that's half a decade of downward slope, which does not compare well to Villa & Eto'o.

if this poll had been made three years ago, yeah, all three of them would have been in contention. but in the last three years they've fallen off while Eto'o and Villa have gone on to achieve true greatness (Villa with the CL & heroic World Cup win - and then Eto'o's Double Treble). Henry's fallen off in the last two years, sure, but he was sooooo good for several years before that he remains a factor anyway.

they would have more votes on a non-Barça forum, sure, but you can't argue they deserve to be in contention.

Agreed on Raul and Sheva but Ruud?

Hell no.

In regards to the last few years, the same that was said about Henry can be said about Ruud. Except that Ruud was much better and more instrumental to Real's success than Henry was to Barca's.

The fact that he so nonchalantly dominated the role of a pure striker in the two top leagues of the decade puts him contention with no questions asked. He is also the only player ever to win top scorer in both La Liga and the EPL if I'm not mistaken.

All the above players were amazing with one team, but less dominant when they changed the team and environment they're accustomed to playing with and the competition they face. Even E'too who won the treble with Inter was hardly the focal E'too of Barca that earned his spot on that list. Ruud however seemlessly slotted into a whole different setting, and not only continued to perform at a high level, but became the team's go to man and arguably the key figure in their success.

There is not a shadow of doubt Ruud deserves to be in the discussion.

Suppose its no suprise I vote Zlatan.
But I dont think its easy, with Henry, RVN, Drogba, Eto, Villa..

I think Villa falls just behind the top and Drogba only have a few years to really brag about.

As for concistency and dominance, I end up with Zlatan and Eto. Eto have really suprised me in Inter and have been awesome his two years, been good even when the team hasnt performed. Problem for him is he hasnt been close to what Ibra was for the same team just a few years erlier.

With Messi and Ronaldo out, for me the attacker of the last ten years is simply Zlatan, though if there is one place on the net I´ll be alone with that view, its this one. :D

It's between these 5 for me:
Drogba, Henry, Eto, Villa and Zlatan

With Raul and RVN comming very close.

Villa was amazing in his Valencia years...
Honestly i can't choose - really i can't.
The top 5 get each a vote from me :p

I'm biased but Henry. It wasn't just the goalscoring but the incredible amount of assists he got too. Great for Arsenal and Barcelona and great for his country too. Best player I think I'll ever see wearing the Arsenal shirt.

lol @ Ibra having votes. How is he even considered best striker in the last decade? Henke Larsson deserves it way more.

It is between Eto'o, Henry and Villa (more or less in that order).

Shevchenko as good as he was for Milan became horrible when he left them in 2006, which of course rules him out of the run if we look at the whole decade.

Ibrahimovic is ruled out as well because of his obvious lack of success in CL and too low goal ratio.

Drogba is ruled out also IMO. Too inconsistent and never won anything in Europe or with his country.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is the one who comes nearest to equaling the above mentioned trio. But because of his lack of success in Europe and for his country he is out of the top 3. His goalscoring abilities are unquestionable if not the best of all the players in the poll.

Raul and Trezeguet were not at any point in their career the best attackers in the world IMO. Raul also had his best years before the millenium.

BUT where the hell is Ronaldo (the Brazilian one of course)?!

henry was a moster. crazy goalscorer, lot of assists, won almost everything with club and international level. plus he was a great leader on the pitch (arsenal)

same as Sheva; he was done by 2006.

(and no need to clarify, There's Only One Ronaldo)

I mean if we're talking talent, then it's Henry for his all-around ability and Ruud for pure goalscoring.

it's when you factor in success that others step up. specifically Villa and Mr. Big Shot.
