Some body mentioned Cesc being clutch(Raed you troll bastard)... Alexis scored huge goals too. Unlike the stat piler Alexis showed a lot of promise too

People care only about the stats.

I don't care about imaginary card waving, and crappy diving skills especially when his redeeming factor was that he tracked back like a menace, only for:

True, he did. Like the one that he scored at home after 2 minutes of subbing in to equalize against Madrid. Too bad it counted for fuck all. And his run to beat Madrid on the through ball was gorgeous especially when that he did shoot the ball way early, a match Fabregas also scored a crucial header.

Alexis. Started well but injuries hampered his integration. Hopefully he'll keep healthy and start well this coming year.

Generally Delightful
Cesc but only because it has been quite a disappointing season for Alexis, back injury and all.

Can't decide because you can't really compare the two and definitely not after one season. The future will tell who the better signing was.

I can't believe that Cesc is winning this poll. :shakeshead:

i can't believe cesc is losing this poll

i mean i know most guys here have a man crush on alexis...but the guy is injured all the time , he can't finish a ball from 2 yards. he just doesn't fit into to the team's playing style at all. i know it's he's first season but villa, ibra, pedro (first proper season) have all scored more goals than him.

he works hard and tracks back often, that's the only things he's got going he's way.

Cesc was better only in stats..
That was also the argument in favor of Cesc, by his fans last summer.. His stats!

Cesc showed he can be a good alternative close to messi versus weaker teams in a 3-4-3 formation.
In all other domains, he was a disappointment for me.. Never managed to adjust in any mid role in our classic orthodoxy of 4-3-3.. (worst of all no skills, patience and intelligence in moving - circulating the ball)

Alexis did have a bad season, part of which was due to his injuries..
He showed uncomfortable on the wing, which is the main problem IMO..
On the contrary, he showed how well he can play on top, and his clever moves always created dangers and broke some buses.

Overall, alexis for sure.. They both need to do better next season though..

Even though he was injured half the time, he still showed more improvements at the season gone by then Cesc, who started very well scoring wise, had a few excellent games in january/february and after the game against Valencia or Leverkusen got lost.

he just doesn't fit into to the team's playing style at all.

I disagree..he fits very well, gives us other options, makes us more direct and his off the ball movements are impressive. And at least he didn't forced Pep to change our system just to fit him in the team and didn't talked shit with his journalists friends from Madrid.

You do realize that Alexis is a winger, unlike those that you mentioned and that Pep knew when he bought him that we won't get more then 15 goals/season..otherwise he would have sold Villa or Pedro.

he works hard and tracks back often, that's the only things he's got going he's way.

That's the only thing that kept Villa too in the first XI for all the second part of last season..that and the fact that Bojan was the only striker on the bench.

a lot of cesc's bad performances came from being played in a completely wrong position. at one point he was played as a CF.
in my opinion alexis has shown no real consistent improvement for me but tbf neither has cesc.

got to agree with you on he's off the ball movements but i don't see what options he has given us, if anything he has cut down on options because he just hesitates on the ball to much. maybe that will go away next season
- i don't see how cesc forced pep to play him. he didn't have to, and i can remember a few games where he didn't have to and that wasn't cesc's fault. it's similar with iniesta, pep didn't have to play him on the wing. but he did and he wasn't even have the player he was at AM.

ok maybe ibra and villa weren't wingers but pedro is more of a winger than alexis.
genuine question: if pep doesn't expect 15+ goals from him then what does he want from him. does he want him to make passes and assists? he hasn't done. does he want him to dribble past defenders and make crosses? A, we have dani for crosses B, crosses to who?.

we can sit here and say stats don't matter all we want but at the end of the day - they really do especially for a forward player.

That's the only thing that kept Villa too in the first XI for all the second part of last season..that and the fact that Bojan was the only striker on the bench.

i think the fact that villa is one of the best strikers around and he can change he's drought situation any minute helped him stay in the starting XI - and ofcourse bojan being the only striker on the bench
