Camp Nou

Hi, its me..
Barcelona's board of directors will make a decision in January on whether to expand the Nou Camp or submit plans to move to a new stadium.

The Spanish champions have commissioned a report over the viability of both projects with the objective to increase the capacity of their home ground to 105,000.

Although progress was made at a meeting on Monday, the Barca directors will not announce their preferred option until early in 2014.

Board spokesman Toni Freixa explained on the club's official website it had two choices: "The construction of a new stadium on the land on Diagonal, property which belongs to the University of Barcelona, or a profound remodelling project that would constitute a new stadium keeping the current structure of the Camp Nou.

"Both would have a capacity of 105,000 spectators, the stadium would be covered, there will be a construction of a new Palau with a capacity of 12,000 spectators, an adjacent court with a capacity of 2,000 spectators, 6,000 new parking spots and access to the Ciutat Esportiva of the Miniestadi.

"We've made advances, we have all the information and we're in a position to make a decision."

Despite the sizeable financial outlay that would be involved, Freixa insisted any project would not harm the club, adding: "It needs to be viable from a technical perspective, urbanist and economic. We would never submit a project that would endanger the sustainability of the club."

I think the old Foster design as been scrapped for political reasons as it was from Laporta's reign. I imagine most socios want to keep the current stadium and have it revanvated.

Yeah but just wait, I have little doubt that Rosell et al are going to come out with a feasibility report that will favor new construction over renovation and attempt to market it as the smarter & more profitable plan to socios in the long run...Ignoring, of course, the massive construction debacle that persists in Spain

Makes me quite nostalgic thinking that I saw the last great true Barcelona side in one of the most famous stadiums ever.

There's no doubt we need a new stadium but something along the lines of "Microsoft Camp Nou" doesn't sit well with me, even if the sponsorship money would pay for a fair chunk of any new project.

The University denies having spoken with Barca about selling land for a new stadium

Universitat de Barcelona insists he negotiates with the club on a new Camp Nou

In an official statement, the Chancellor calls "not involve the institution in the debate" the new Camp Nou

The UB denies negotiating and reaffirms what was said in 2012 when he was not willing to sell land

The University of Barcelona has decoupled from studies that FC Barcelona has been doing in recent months in reference to the possibility of building a new Camp Nou just off the Avinguda Diagonal on land currently owned by the UB at the exit of the town.

In an official statement posted on its website has insisted that no talks with the club in any way so that you can erect a new stadium. This is the statement from the UB:

"With regard to reports in the media in recent weeks about the new site from FC Barcelona and what has transpired Board held on Monday, the Rector of the Universitat de Barcelona asks not to involve the institution in this debate. UB's position remains the same as expressed in the statement of March 15, 2012. If it were the case that the FC Barcelona expressed interest in any assets of the University, the Chancellor manifest UB posture on this issue. "

Almost two years ago, the UB denied it was in talks with the Catalan club. "The UB does not do real estate business and is not willing to sell any security of their heritage," he said in that statement.

If it is impossible the feasibility of building a new Camp Nou in the Avinguda Diagonal, the only feasible option would profoundly reshape the current Estadi whenever Barça members approve it in a referendum in 2014.

Meanwhile it is pretty obvious Rosell prefers a new stadium to a redesign. The vice president recently said, "A new stadium could generate between 30 and 40 million and reform 20 to 25,"

I recently read that Barca have rolled out (or are planning to roll out) wifi all over the stadium. Has this been implemented already, or is this something for the near future?

I'm in favour of a overhaul of existing stadium but the reasons dished out for a new one are because it's outdated and lacks premium seats and it's far from the main city

350M for 30 years, that's 11.67M per year... What the heck, that's incredibly cheap. Fuck that shit, if the Qataris want it they will have to pay big time. Just like it's with big/rich clubs buying players; pay up or gtfo.

I've already faced the reality that everything is for sale, the shirt and the stadium as well. With that as exogenously given, let's make the best out of it and get the big money. Especially with the name we've built up the last couple of years, we might not get the same cash in 25 years time we can get now.

Never gonna happen, Rosell would become persona non grata in Catalonia. Plus, 10 million a year is pathetic for the stadium name of the world's most popular club.

Can't believe some of you would accept it, I wouldn't for any money in the world.
