Carlo Ancelotti

I think you're overrating them. Came up short vs two good defensive teams this season juventus and atletico (I know they knocked Atletico out the CL but were poor against them in the league and copa)

Came up short in the league both times.

They probably should've knocked out Juve with all the chances they created and kept the pressure on Atletico perfectly in every match except the 4-0 loss. Carlo's attacking setup succeeded in both of those games, it's just poor finishing (Bale in particular) and the abnormally good last ditch defending of Simeone's side that muted them. Just a disclaimer that my praise for them is in a purely attacking sense though, I can't possibly say that they've been decidedly good defensively at all in the past 2 years.

I never really anticipated a single noteworthy match in which RM's attack would be held scoreless. There was only one match at all that they really didn't look like scoring whatsoever and that's the 4-0 loss to Atleti. Even on bad days they had the capacity to create chances of every kind out of nothing: set pieces, counters, collective buildups, aerial plays, etc.

I've not been alone in this feeling. Look at the RM/La liga threads on practically every match day under Ancelotti's tenure. Either Real score early and go on to rout a team or Real concede and the thread blows up with posts like "Please _____ team hold on please please please", "just 30 more minutes...", or other expressions of anxiety/nervousness. It implicitly shows how much people fear RM's attack. It's expected that they score. It's a potentiality that could never be ruled out with this side.

In a survey, 70% of RM fans voted YES to sell Ronaldo if the rumor about PSG splashing 125M euros on him was true.

Ronaldo is already 31. If Perez wants to get a big check, he can't wait that much TBH.

But sadly that rumor can't be true since there's the FFP :(

Ronaldo is 30. His birthday is in early February if I am not mistaken.

I agree with DonAndres This is a mistake for RM. Benitez might or might not win them titles, but he more likely than not will mean a downgrade in quality of football. We cannot downplay the attacking and attractive way Ancelotti made RM play, this season even more than the last. He gave them a fearsome offensive identity that Benitez will very likely be unable to replicate with his conservative style of play.

We also cannot downplay the way Ancelotti settled a very volatile team in the wake of Mourinho, he settled players, calmed animosities and controlled personalities. Benitez is known as a hardass and is known to clash with his players, so one has to wonder how that will fly with that team after someone like Ancelotti who was the complete opposite.

I'm obviously assuming Benitez will be the replacement as he seems the leading candidate.

Even if Rafa is an inept idiot, i wont blame him next season or the players when things go to shit. I will automatically give Perez all the blame in the future, no exceptions.

Goodbye Carlo. As much as I agree with general sentiments, I also think Real will be fine. There are plenty of quality coaches that speak Spanish. Valverde could be a solid option

Agreed. I also think they will be fine (or at least not much worse off).

We got 100 points with a sick manager, were within 1 match of winning the league with Tata, and have won with Lucho.

None of those were "world-class" managers.

Thats Barca, they are ridiculously easy to coach compared to almost every other team imo. Pep is a great coach, but his weaknesses were still exposed once he left. Personally i dont really rate Lucho, just a decent/average coach imo. Its impossible to really coach Real Madrid, simply because Perez is here.

Speaking as someone who downplayed Lucho until the very end, of our bad days at least, as a mediocre and midlevel manager, I'll hold off on giving judgment on Benitez as Madrid's manager esp since he'll be managing a team filled with talent he has never had before and unlimited transfer money.

This could potentially work out for them.

Its fun seeing the circus back in action though.
