Carlos Tevez has stunned Manchester City after handing in a transfer request to the club.

The striker wrote a formal request just hours after his side went joint top of the Premier League following their 3-1 win over West Ham on Saturday.

According to the News Of The World, City's captain has become disillusioned with life at Eastlands and following numerous disagreements with manager Roberto Mancini, the Argentine is said to want a move away.

The 26-year-old signed a five-year deal with the club upon his arrival in 2009 from Manchester United. But despite being a popular figure with the fans, tension has increased between Tevez and Mancini, the most recent case being the striker's late substitution in City's win against Bolton.

Tevez has played an influential role in City's season and having scored 10 goals, the Argentine has been the preferred choice over Emmanuel Adebayor this campaign.

However, reports have suggested the relationship between Tevez and the management has been the catalyst for the transfer request, which will now alert Europe's elite clubs such as Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
