Manchester City have rejected striker Carlos Tevez's written transfer request.

City, who went joint top of the league on Saturday, said they were disappointed by the move, particularly as they had been so accommodating of the Argentina striker's personal circumstances of his family living in South America.

"This is both an unfortunate and unwelcome distraction and the club will remain focused on the games ahead in what is turning out to be a very promising season," the club said in a statement on its website.

"The door remains open for Carlos to be selected to play."

Tevez, who joined City in 2009 after a spell at Manchester United and is the club's highest-paid player, missed Saturday's 3-1 victory at former club West Ham United through suspension.

He has been enjoying some of the best form of his career at City, scoring 33 goals in 50 league appearances, and his desire to leave comes as more of a disappointment than a shock to fans given reports he is feeling homesick.

The 26-year-old has often spoken of his desire to return to South America and in August he hinted that he could even consider retiring from the game, such was his dismay at Argentina's defeat by Germany in the World Cup quarter-finals.

"Roberto Mancini and all at the club have shown, and will continue to show, sensitivity to Carlos' personal circumstances including the issue of his family being based overseas," the club statement said.

"Indeed following his suspension as a result of the game against Bolton, Carlos requested, and was given, special dispensation by the manager to take leave overseas.

"The written transfer request is in stark contrast to Carlos' stated position in both public and club contexts."

The club said it had received numerous requests over recent months from Tevez's representatives to renegotiate and improve his playing contract as well as more recently a request to extend the contract by another year.

"However, in line with the club's policy of not negotiating playing contracts mid-season this has not been granted," the statement said.

"Carlos's current five-year contract has three-and-a-half years to run and he is the highest-paid player at the Manchester City football club."

Tevez, who cost City around £26 million would attract interest from across Europe's biggest clubs in the approaching transfer window and City would have little trouble recouping their outlay.

The striker made his name with Brazilian club Corinthians before joining West Ham United along with Javier Mascherano - a controversial deal that later cost West Ham a £5.5 million fine because he was part-owned by businessman Kia Joorabchian's MSI company.

Homesickness could only mean a move to spain, maybe with a slight chance to italy. Is there a chance we have some money left ... b/c RM wouldnt get weaker with him tbh ... and Tevez would be one of the few players left in the world who i would consider to still add sth to our current team.

On the field, I would pick Tevez #1 or tied #1 with Rooney among strikers in Premier League. Before forking out the big bucks, his ability to be happy and remain productive has to be evaluated.

Like almost all big-time scorers (Zlatan), he needs to be the star. Barca is the wrong place for him. Villa's ability to cope with not being #1 is why he was the perfect pickup.

Carlos Tevez Confirms He Wants To Leave Manchester City

Carlos Tevez has reiterated his desire to leave Manchester City and has blamed the breakdown of his relationships with 'certain executives' as the main reason, revealed the Daily Mail.

Tevez had a transfer request turned down last week after the Argentine cited family reasons for his desire to leave the club.

In a strongly worded statement the club rejected Tevez’s request and also insinuated that the Argentine’s motives for leaving may not have been entirely truthful citing that Tevez’s agent Kia Joorabchian had repeatedly asked for a contract extension in recent months.

A suggestion that Tevez rejected by stating that he rejected the offer of a new contract because his decision was not based on money:

“I could have signed an improved contract, offer by the club for this season however this decision is not about money. I have made that clear to both the board and the management on several occasions,” he said.

Tevez claims that he first wanted to leave the club in the summer but was persuaded to stay by is representative Joorabchian.

The club’s statement was thought to have angered Tevez and led him to release his “regrettable” statement:

"I hugely resent suggestions that I have been unduly influenced by others. I wanted to leave in the summer, but was convinced to return,” his statement read.

“Sadly, my feelings have not changed. I am most disappointed that the management should now see fit to try to portray the situation in another light,”

Tevez has made it clear that he has no “personal issue” with manager Roberto Mancini but that it was his breakdown in relationships with “certain individuals that is beyond repair.”

"My relationship with certain executives and individuals at the club has broken down and is now beyond repair. I do not wish to expand on this at this stage. They know, because I have told them," he added.

Tevez has now asked for time to clear his head in order to decide what he does in the next stage of his career and also thanked City owner Sheikh Mansour for his “understanding and support”:

“Now I need to clear my head and think because this is a very important part of my career. My feelings have not changed and it is regrettable that we have reached this situation,” he added.

I think he would suit us.I am not sure though.I have to think about this. Maybe we should have other priorities, idk.

It's funny how all these mercenaries who chase the big bucks in England end up regretting it later on.

Like Robinho he only got what he deserved.

I'm a bit shocked to see you say that, Nolan.

frankly I reckon you'd be saying the exact same things if you had be away from BA and live in North-West England for 3 years.

:p

and I dunno if he's a merc, he's just owned by that Joorabchian piece of shit so has to go where he's told.

it is a funny fucking situation though. wonder where Ducky is these days?

Well I'm half joking, but he should have known the situation he was getting himself into. And I shouldn't talk, because I bitch about DC like that and compare everything here to Montreal, so I'm just as bad. :p

Carlos has 3 options. Stay and deal with the shit storm, be sold for a huge amount or retire and go back to Argentina.

Who would actually buy him?
Real play with one up front and Jose has said he wants a big CF to hold up play.
Barca don't have the cash and play with one up front in Villa.
Inter play with one up front iirc and have Milito and Eto'o.
A move to another English club wouldn't really make sense (unless he's been lying again).
Milan don't have the money so I can only think of Munich but I can't really see that happening.

The only way he will go back to Argentina to play is if Boca can afford his transfer fee which will be in excess of £50 million.

he wants to quit football and go back to BA. but I reckon his slave-driver will try and force another big move.

he'll go to Inter. Milito will go to Reial and then they'll use that cash to sign Charlie.

City will then sign Torres or Dzeko (probably Dzeko since no one else wants to match Wolfsburg's absurd valuation of him)

It's funny people call Tevez a mercenary. He always gives his all on the pitch. Works his balls off. I doubt a mercenary would get that frustrated when get substituted. Carlitos is a winner. I'm actually amazed with all his family issues and now as he says problems with executive individuals he still managed to tolerate the situation up this far. Tbh I was always expecting sucha moment. English football is not just made for Argentinians. Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Inter and Juve are the likely destinations for him, though I'm not sure about Inter cause I think they can't sign a non-EU player this season anymore. I'm not sure of though.

And I agree with Meta on Joorabchian thing. That man seems to be a fucking douchebag.
