I think it is overreaction to write him off already and get rid of him.His main problem is speed or lack of it. But what's worrying is the fact he still didn't blend in complety. Xavi isn't fast but he is always on ball, always has solutions, Cesc doesn't.
For me he was bought to replace Xavi and he should play there, so no false 9 or skilled footwork like Andres, just keep fluidity with passing adn keep the ball moving.
It's true that he was signed to eventually replace Xavi. But it's becoming worryingly apparent that he is not in the same league as Xavi.
When he was in England, he was one of the top ball-playing midfielders in the EPL. That doesn't tell us that much considering the comparative standard of his rivals. However he appeared to have "the tools" to fit in to the Barca system and he had the La Masia education of course.
Cesc and MGMT find themselves struggling to find a role within the team, without disrupting the delicate balance.
Cesc is not someone who is going to go past a player using pace and he doesn't have the trickery to either.
His strengths are: his Killer pass, Link-up play, Finishing, Dead-Ball play and his Will to succeed.
As has been previously mentioned his "best" position is held by Iniesta or the CAM position in a 4-2-3-1, which we don't play.
His confidence is in a fragile state and he is feeling the pressure from the fans and media. Did he even have a shot against Zaragoza? I don't recall any.
When a club invests big money in a player, they feel obligated to play them even if they aren't performing (classic example F. Torres).
I personally believe in meritocracy. If a player is not performing, then you give someone else a go. A person should not be dropped or ignored because their price tag is inferior, even if their talent is not.
There are players in the squad such as: Thiago, Sergi Roberto, Song that will notice this and feel it's unfair that he gets preferential treatment.
At the moment I think Cesc is suffering with a sense of belonging. He doesn't know his place within the team and neither does MGMT. He has been tried in Messi's, Xavi's and Iniesta's positions and knows these are finest in the world in their respective positions. It's a lot to live up to.
I think Cesc WILL come good, in time. The question is: How much more time will he get?
Not an option. The kids ego is way bigger than his talent or his pay packet deserves. And part of the transfer was on condition that the club also took his little brother, which Chel$ki were foolish enough to agree to.I'm not Cesc's biggest fan so tend to get on his case abut but I would have much preferred to sign Eden hazard 2 years ago than fabregas.
Sorry for the long post.
