Disaster from Dortmund tonight.

For all the good form they started with, they look in threat of being eliminated in the group stages.

Real Mdrid are an odd team. How can u loose possession (at one moment it was 52% for Dortmund) with a trio like modric-isco-kroos. Madrid is a team that doesn't know how to press; they loose the ball they immediately retreat to their box ala atletico. But they know how to defend that box extreamly well. Another flaw in real Madrid is their incapability of monitoring the rythme of the game. Allow Barca or Bayern a 2 goals lead and they are going to make the game a bit more boring and more slow, Madrid don't know how to do that. Dortmund did ok but Real Madrid are simply rock solid in zonal defense and that was the difference between the two teams today.

They knew Dortmund would play high line and went with an Atletico style approach with Ronaldo and Bale breaking through middle.

Didnt try to keep ball for sake of it.

yeah but not only today.. I have yet to see real Madrid pressing fiercely up front. I have seen barca (godfather of this stuff), bayern, Liverpool, sevilla, even atletico (first 15 minutes of each half) etc.; But real Madrid never do that, let met reiterate, they don't know how to do that.

They do press from front quite a bit.

Killed Barca doing it in recent supercopa game.

but not fiercely don't skip adverbs :pep:. I know but that's more on us than on them. If you notice our games, pretty much all teams put players upfront when stegen prepares to pass the 6 meters. Mainly because teams know that our midfield is not brilliant. So real Madrid does so with us too. (teams like betis, belbao, sevilla, atletico also done it vs us)

So yes they do it when it suits them to or will play on break when suits them to.

Last game v Betis they were arguably pressing too much as game went on and over comitting which led to them getting hit on break quite a few times.

well they do. But there is levels to this stuff. The fierce pressing i'm talking about is the one that is so agressive it basically leaves you with no one at the back (remember pato's goal vs barca or falcao's). Dortmund also did it today. Despite being labelled as "suicidal" i think when done properly, that agressive pressing can prove a Deadly weapon because you take back the ball in dangerous places while also having many players at the front already. Dortmund did indeed get the ball back many times but the CBs were brilliant. On more note, it is extreamly difficult to do that versus the likes of modric and isco and kroos; if any other team was there today i think Dortmund would have a better chance of winning.

Two claps for Liverpool. Going to laugh when they don't get out of their group after their fans were penciling them in to knock us out of the competition. Would gladly take them in the knockout stages and give them a proper stomping.
