What is that lineup from Bayern? Maradona 2010-esque.

Lewandowski - striker
Müller - SS
James - #10
Robben - wingforward
Ribery - wingforward
Martinez - DM

Heynckes either tactical genius or first signs of demenzia.

Bayern basically deciding to negate their CMs is alarming.

Javi Martinez has a fuck ton of work to do.

They’ve left Thiago on the bench to have a more direct wing play approach and attack Madrid’s weakness. I like the idea tbh. Trying to take on Madrid with a slow build up through the middle approach is asking to lose.

I think it’s a 4-1-4-1 with Martinez as a dm and a midfield of ribery-james-muller-robben. Muller will make late runs into the box and try and score headers a la mandzukic.

Bayern should play the wings and look to use the aerial power of lewandowski and muller

Lewa has a tendency to flop whenever Ramos is next to him TBH. The only time he had an undoubtedly great game vs our CBs was in 2013 and that was vs Pepe-Varane with Ramos as RB.

Besides he can't put too many past us. Otherwise Floper will never come down to the locker room to offer him the contract.

My memory isn’t that good but I think he did well the following year when Dortmund played well against them in 2014. Since then he only played once because the missed the first leg last year.

Yeah I get the direct attacking approach. But there is a huge lack of pace and very attack heavy set-up in front of the defensive line.

I just see this line-up being very vulnerable to Real fast paced counters.

He used it in the game where they pummeled Dortmund recently iirc, and this has generally been their lineup for the last month. I think the idea maybe to not match RM in midfield, but rather attack their weak defensive transition. Or just inertia of keeping the same lineup and tactics as in recent games

I would say Bayern would be better on the counter with this setup. I just wonder if they will let RM have the ball or try to go for a 50-50 game.

I think that Jupp has seen that Real isn't as good at defending counters as they used to be.

But, that said, the difference between the midfields is alarming. Hopefully Jupp knows what he's doing (he should).

Have to keep in mind that neither Robben or Ribery will likely have the ability to sustain themselves for 90 minutes at a match of this intensity, meaning Jupp will have to totally change his formation at some point in the game.

If this backfires for Bayern, it's going to backfire big time.

Jupp will ask a lot defensivly from James and Müller when they do not have the ball. Expect both players to run about 13 kilometres. James lately played a lot deeper than he used to - even deeper than Thiago did - and Müller plays a mixture between 8-wing-second striker and supports both Robben and Ribery.

this is either going to be a tactical genius on the level of rinus michels / arrigo sacchi or a catastrophe on the proportion of valverde roma. there is no middle ground.
