Champions League 2017/18

Of course it is. It requires consistency while CL has a much more gambling aspect to it. In the CL you don't know who you will face, nor at what condition will they will be at. In La Liga you play everyone, and you do so home and away

To me this follows the Law of Big Numbers. The more you play, the more you'll get closer to statistical fact of a 50% chance head vs. 50% chance tail. Meaning, the more you play, the less it is about luck and the more it is about who is better. There are 38 games in la liga
This isn’t the Premier League where you’ve got more parity at the top. Given the huge financial disparity that exists in La Liga it would be an embarrassment if Barca didn’t win the league this season.

I cannot fucking believe that people still rate the league above Cl. The league is difficult to win no doubt but the CL is even harder to win.

Different styles of play, more intensity, more unpredictability plus you need a super strong mentality to deal with all the random variables.

Idiotic posts by random Twitter dumbwits trying to save Messi's reputation by shitting on the rest of the team.

Pique, Umtiti, Alba, Busquets, Iniesta, Rakitic, Suarez would start EASILY in that Bayern team.

I have never seen Alba shitting his pants like that for Real's second goal and I'd trust even Gomes to misplace fewer passes than Thiago did today.

And Suarez shits on Lewandowski from a great height. Scores against Madrid every single time.

Pique and Rakitic wouldn't start and despite the terrible match Lewa is still better than current Suarez.

i think that as barca fans we have to stop daydreaming about Pep's team and take a hard look at the fact that real are on the cusp of 4 CLs in 5 years. they have been far more efficient in the CL and we need to be very realistic about the fact that, for example, messi simply needs to do better in the CL. i see a lot of you posting about how even though real keep on winning the CL noone is talking about them like they talked about pep's barca. newsflash: pundits and neutrals hardly care about that, they continue to praise real and CR, and we are just too biased to admit it. In fact considering how dominant this real has been pep underachieved with us (and after us), and real frankly look unbeatable in a two-legged tie. there are posts in other threads about how there are more competitions in world football than the CL but holy shit, nobody cares about the fucking Copa and it means little ultimately if suarez and messi were great in the copa if they could do shit all against Roma in the CL. this is tough but we need to aspire to better things and expect more from our top players or else we risk a small-club, small-titles mentality.

in 2011 when real beat us in the copa Xavi rightly said that Barca was more interested in more important trophies. thats the attitude we need, not this yearly copa nonsense.

Good post. It’s not just them winning CL but they are consistently performing better against the top clubs in Europe while we are getting thoroughly outplayed by the likes of Roma, who let’s be honest aren’t among the very best in the world. I find some of the comments by the Barca fans delusional in the extreme.

Beating Leganes, Granada, Malaga, Deportivo, Betis consistently is a lot easier than going away to Juventus, PSG, Bayern, Atletico and beating them infront of their fans round after round.

Real just can't be arsed. They are like Zidane in his playing days. Not consistent against minnows but show up at the biggest stages.

Liverpool are hopeless. Madrid will sit deep and Milner, Henderson, Chamberlain will not get the ball forward. This is not gung-ho Pep tactics or Roma. They can barely break down lower table Premier League sides which sit back ffs.

True. Liverpool will give it their best shot but the quality is not there. Ronaldo will destroy their defense and Real Madrid will dominate the midfield.

I think the most important thing Zidane has done is improve Real Madrid mentally and physically. His tactics are ordinary but he has instilled the right mentality.

What team is held in higher regard, the Milan that dominated Europe but won only one league title or Mancini's Inter? the answer is obvious.

CL > League.

Actually you’re right, Liverpool can’t play against a deep block, which is Madrid’s standard strategy in big champions league games.

La Liga = Objective validation of the best Spanish club in that season. I am an objective guy and that is why I value La Liga over the CL anyday

CL = a trophy for the ego. It doesn't make you the strongest team in Europe unless that has been established already. If Liverpool wins it this year, no one will dare saying that they are the best team in Europe in 2018 except bais Liverpool fans

What is amusing is the fact that we have spent so much money compared to Real Madrid. Everyone thought of Real Madrid as a club that overspend and underachieves yet we have managed to become that type of club.

Not really in the last 5 years in RM era, we've won 2 doubles league + CdR and a treble that isn't underachieving at all. RM spent and only won 1 league + CdR + Super Cup title in 5 years.

Tactics don’t have to be complicated if the players on the pitch are quality and know how to adapt throughout the game.

Something is very off about this Bayern team when a 35 year old Ribery easily looks the most fit, agile and technically inclined on the team.

I wouldn't say it's a lot easier. Madrid failed to win the La Liga in 8 of the last 10 years. It's a whole different format. In CL you win 3-0 away and lose 3-1 at home and you're through. In La Liga if you play a great game, and a so-so game next week, you lose points. And if you lose too many points you're out of the equation.

Just because Barca has a firm grip in La Liga doesn't mean it's easy to win. Barca are very tough to beat in a league format. Worst version of Barca was a game away from taking the league vs possible the best Madrid team I've seen.

If Real Madrid win the Champions league ( which they are the clear favorites for), anybody who rates them below Barca needs to seriously assess their ‘objectivity’.
