If Real lose the leage to a Barca team pumped twice in Europe by Feb and not other CL last 16 teams and best team they beat in CL is a Liverpool team who wont even be in competition next year... not sure how from that could call them one of top two in Europe this season.

Granted if they win it and beat City then argument could be made.

This is a good argument for the Super League , so we can see all these potential great match ups and truly get an idea of who the best teams are.

Fair play to City for what they did vs Bayern especially last 25 minutes but they faced Copenhagen, Sevilla and Dortmund, followed by Leipzig to get where they are.

City is not going to forgive the type of game Madrid played today.

Again going to need to do a lot better than that because likes of Brighton dominated Chelsea more so than Madrid over these games.

Haaland probably going to be crucial as can't imagine he will blow all those chances City created against Madrid last time if game is similar.

Feels like it will get boring/dilluted in the long run though.

Folk are missing a bit that Real dont always try to dominate ball in these games also.

They know how dangerous can be on break and dont have the technical advantage Spanish teams used to either.

Yeah but they are giving up a lot defensively despite sitting back more. Chelsea created plenty and could've been 2-0 up by break just lacked quality to take advantage of those, better opponents will not.

Apart from what ajno writes:

City gave possession to the 2 hardest teams they faced this season, Arsenal and Bayern, just to control them and hit them on the break.

It's not that Madrid will try that before City. I can defintely see them falling into a well-thought trap that Pep carefully crafted

Honestly I think they were going with attitude both teams will get chances and dared to keep Vini higher up pitch.

Chelsea were well set up though.

The best argument there is imo. A sense of a fairer winner where luck plays a very minor part.

None of Citys goals v Bayern were on the break,

First one posession in final third, second they pressed high and third was posession also.

Steals and mistakes from pressing fall into the category of intentionally conceding possession because the gains of having the opposition trying to build up (unsuccessfully) outweigh the costs.

I obviously wasn't pointing to Rodri's goal, which was a low xG shot Pep himself wouldn't have expected.

No it isnt.

Pressing high up and winning ball from their defenders is not hitting teams on break.

That was not how City played. They were just a bit more cautious at times to make sure got in shape when Bayern had ball.
