Congratulations to all the Cules who have supported Barcelona and their players through and through. Congratulations for all the level headed fans that have endured a lot in the past, and for those who believed in the system. Congratulations to one of the most admirable people on earth, Pep Guardiola. Congratulations Barcelona.
I don't know what it was but that was one hell of a boring final, both teams were a tad bit nervous and never really moved into top gear, fearing the other team greatly. What was proved in the end in face of the whole world, is that football is played with 11 men on the pitch, and that they did not name it football because of any other reason but the mere fact that it is kicked around by the foot, and not hoofed up in the air. It has been proved that through dedication, hard work, honesty and commitment to your beliefs, success can be achieved. Barcelona today demonstrated for the whole world how courage can defeat strength, how intelligence can beat speed, and that art is truly at the heart of this game.
Both teams have arrived at the final of this season's UCL having suffered a lot. Both teams deserved every minute of this final, and deserved their weight gold. Every drop of sweat, every commitment tallied up enough weight to tip the scale in their favor and help them move to the final. Congratulations to both teams for setting the standards for next year. Bravo Manchester, Bravo Barcelona.
Despite the game being boring and lacking a lot in intensity, the game was incredibly balanced, well fought out, and at the end of the day Barcelona wanted it more, they went for it and grabbed it. I was a bit disappointed in Sir Alex Ferguson. He had more than enough experience in top flight football to predict the game better than that. He has enough experience to motivate his team during half time. He just took shelter and hoped Ji Sung Park would disrupt Barcelona's game, what was he thinking? Surely Barcelona were much better individually but, come on. Those were slightly pathetic tactics. I knew it at the bottom of my heart that Pep would play Toure in defense, he wasn't ready to experiment someone else in there and props to him. Brilliant decision.
Onto the players:
VV - 8 - On the two occasions where he was tested, he did good enough to clear the danger. He had taken his Viagra as prescribed.
Puyol - 9 - Rooney or Ronaldo, he ate them up alive. Some of his tackles were mistimed and he needed slight help but he was immense. Going forward he was smart in timing his runs, but his crosses where gobshite.
Pique - 10 - MOM for me. Perfect match, on the field or in the air, dominant as Lion.
Toure - 8 - Did mighty well to keep composed and calm. He fought tooth and nail, but sometimes took way too long on the ball.
Sylvinho - 7 - Experience + Intelligence = faultless performance.
Busquets - 6 - Lost the ball, was a bit overwhelmed but terrific performance in such a tricky position against the best 5 man midfield in the world. Did really well to fight.
Xavi - 8 - What the hell? Majestic.
Iniesta - 9 - SAF worst nightmare did come true, and it was Iniesta as expected who went against the grain to help Barca score the first, single handedly may I add.
Messi - 5 - Horrible game by Messi, selfish, slow, and was looking for the picture perfect pass as opposed to the most effective. Good goal nonetheless.
Eto'o - 7.5 - Did not do much but man oh man did he prove all of you Cules wrong. I swear all of you cules are super spoiled.
Henry - 4 - Garbage. Choker.
Pep - 10 - Genius.
Keita - 99 - Hilarious, and Random. Pep was trying to explain things to him, but he wasn't paying attention what so ever
MANCHESTER UNITED:
VDS - 5 - Alumnia anyone?
Evra - 6.5 - He tried helping the offense a lot because Manchester was stale but far too many chances came through his side in such a lacking match. Had Barcelona taken better advantage, he would have been rapped.
Rio & Vidic - 5.5 - they tried hard but the two moments they lost concentration they allowed in 2 goals.
Oshea - 7 - Did so much better than people expected, and did not allow Theiry Henry to do anything except on one occasion.
Carrick - 5 - So slow in moving the ball around. Did not take a single long shot, did not intercept any passes, and was generally lacking.
Anderson - 4 - Besides being defensively aggressive, was incredibly ineffective.
Giggs - 4 - Absent.
Rooney - 6 - Tried, but his heart wasn't in it, or it seemed to me that he was left out by SAF's formation.
Ronaldo - 7 - Good efforts by him, he was Man U's brightest player. Got really aggressive in the end towards Puyol but the notion that he does not shine in big games really does not make sense to me anymore.
Park - 5 - No place for him in the CL final, way beyond his league. Useless.
Paul, Berba and Tevez - 4 - Meh.
SAF - 0 - Pussied out.

I have to say, well done Barca!!
They were by far the better team on the night and thoroughly deserved the win.
Now I will go and hide in a dark room for a while and think about what could have been! :beer2:

Thank you & we are glad to say that we've always believed in our football, we've always been confident in it and for more days to come now.
I hope that this match will be translated as fair and equal and I would not want anyone Red Devil to think that we were helped in anyway whatsoever. We had our chances, we took them (regardless of our shortcomings) and on that alone, we deserve the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TITLE OF 2008/09.
