I'm amazed how highly people rate Roberto at DM.

That they rate him there more than Gomes? That is about as far as he has to be rated for him to be an option. Or Raki in DM and Roberto on the right. There are plenty alternatives to Gomes or Masch at DM.

I like Mathieu but done feel easy about Cuadrado running at him with Iniesta to help getting back or Umtiti to cover.

There is also Neymar who usually works well in defence in games like this. Iniesta and Neymar have to help Mathieu. There is also Alves in that flank though, and he is a highly intelligent player, similar to a Marcelo.

There are options available to Lucho. Some are quite drastic but so was the move to 3-4-3 in first place and it worked.

Not really, we could have played 3-4-3 with Masch as a CB and Alba in a LM position. And Roberto as DM.

Alba can cover the entire flank and would be better suited for dealing with Cuadrado than what he currently have on that flank.

Alba has been useless for Months both in 433 and 343, more or less.

Nearly forgot! N Alves also! Alves n Cuadrado plus Dybala drifting wide sometimes can be too much for that flank I think!
